Very disappointed with the engine choices. Was really hoping they would of provided the more powerful sdv6 engine as a choice. Have a deposit down and my dealer has called. Not sure I want to order just yet in case they introduce shortly after. Anyone in the know if the sdv6 is earmarked??

I thought it was in the range 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Not in the know at all but I really doubt it in the short term. If you put the SDV6 in the Disco it'll out perform the performance SC version and this is the problem LR have. To me I think it's a really good idea to include the 240 ps 2.0 SD4 but to gain just 20 bhp from another litre is just lazy.
If you look at things a little wider you will see that with the RR Sport, they did put the 306ps SDV6 into the range but what then happened was that they hardly sold any 4.4's and the ones that they did sell now command less come resale than there much cheaper SDV6 counter-part. I'm absolutely sure that's why the SDV6 has never been put into the Full Fat because if they did performance from the two engines would be as near as makes no difference the same, given the extra weight of the 4.4 SDV8 and LR would lose out to the tune of £8K to £9k a pop.
I seriously considered an SQ7 this time, despite the facth it's pretty ugly because it's very well made, big inside has great tech but has a genuinely great Diesel engine. Land Rover have had plenty of time to sort out and what they should have done was get the 4.4 up to 380-390 bhp and then allow the SDV6 to go into the FFRR line up.

I'm presuming he's talking about the 306 ps version not the 258.

The TD6 is the same power as the D4 SDV6 256bhp, apart from 2hp more on TD6. 20% more torque on TD6 than the 4 cylinder
You can order it now. I didn't realise you meant the SDV6 from sport.

To clarify I know the current tdv6 from the D4 is available in the D5 but I am asking if anyone knows if the more powerful sdv6 (as in the rr sport) is being introduced to the D5!

There is a SVX due in 2018 with more power, but can't see any other engine choice coming in standard range.

Thanks, may just have to settle for the 256 3.0. Shame though, I think Land Rover could of provided the ultimate vehicle with the 306ps engine. Performance and practicality.

Things don't change, this all reminds me of a conversation that I had many years ago when enquiring why LR didn't put the EFi V8 into the 90 & 110 instead of the carb version - the answer was that both the Discovery & 200Tdi were just around the corner... D4 - Stornoway Grey
D2 V8 - Zambesi Silver (rust free JDM import 😎)
FL2 - Sd4 HSE
110 Td5 DCPU - Bonatti Grey - sold
FL2 Td4 - Zambesi Silver - sold
D2 Td5 - Epsom Green - sold
F1 Td4 - Giverney Green - sold
90 300 Tdi - White – sold BIG mistake should have kept it!
F1 Td4 - written off by a taxi!
D1 300 Tdi - written off by a Fiesta...
D1 200 Tdi - sold
90 Turbo Diesel - sold
Ser 2a SWB - sold and glad I 'got rid'
Ser 2 SWB - sold but wish I still had it!

Don't believe anything they tell you, in 1984 when the 90 came out I would have preferred the V8 engine and would have waited for one I was told that it would never happen, so bought the 2.5 diesel in less than a year they were putting the V8 in.

First post here.
Has anyone heard anything further on the Ingenium 6 cylinder or SDV6 in the Discovery 5.
I currently have a RRS HSE Dynamic.
My main issue is there isn't much room in the third row seats and the boots isn't that large for such a large car.
I thought the Discovery would be exactly what I needed until I saw the engine choices. I pointed out to a rather non plussed salesman that it is pretty much the slowest car you can buy for £60,000.
Like YT above I have been seriously considering a Q7 or SQ7. I test drove everything similar to the Discovery 5, which I felt to be the Q7, XC90 and Tesla Model X. All 7 seater cars, the only other option is maybe a Mercedes GLS, but I have driven an R-Class and it felt like a bus as well as feeling like a car out of the dark ages. I was very surprised that the Q7 was as quiet and as smooth riding as the RRS. The Tesla was too noisy and I don't like that you can't fold down the middle seats and the XC90 felt like a cheaper car that has been tarted up.
So I ended up Q7 or Discover 5 and then waited on the unveiling.
I like the looks of it. I like the space. It probably feels more luxurious than a Q7, although less hi tech. But For £10k more it is way slower. A Q7 3.0 S-Line gets to 62 in 6.5s or for £10k more than a Discovery 5 I could get an Sq7 that gets to 62 in 4.9. I have also factored in the 10%+ discounts you can get on a Q7. Although you lose it at the other end in higher depreciation.
My suspicion is that the Ingenium 6 cylinder will be in the Discovery 5 around the end of next year. It will be lighter and faster and more economical. This would fix my main issue. Magazine articles suggest it will be 275, 340 or 400hp. Even 275 plus a lighter engine would be an improvement. Although maybe a Discovery SVR would be nice with 400
