EPB binding one side only
Hello, I'm hoping forbsome advice having searched the site and haven't found anything relating to my current issue.
Having had both rear wheels off to apply some rust protection, I now have the passenger side park brake binding. With the wheel off, I can't rotate the disc to align with the adjuster wheel in the hope of being able to wind the brake off so that I can remove the disc for inspection.
Has anybody else had this issue and found a solution please? If pull the emergency EPB release cable, will that at least release the binding brake?
Many thanks

Have you put a wheel nut on and used a breaker bar to rotate the disc?Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

Hi G3Z
Yes, I've tried that but can only get it to move a tiny amount, like some slack is being taken up.
Potentially something as come off inside the drum, have you tried a socket on the hub nut and a bar?
Chances are pulling the emergency release cable won’t help, but it may. I’d try a bigger hammer if all else fails

Spot on about the big hammer, that knocked enough crust out to allow me to turn the hub and wind that side right off. Will get inside when the new kit arrives.
As you can see, my experience really shines on the jobs, not 🤣🤣🤣
As ever thanks for your input.

This is what fell out with the drum in situ, probably plenty more in there.
You’ll want to get the calliper and carrier off and the torx bolt out before getting the hammer out again though. 👍

For your amusement, this is what I found behind the front arch liners, I don't think they've been off in 18 years. It was really high quality compost!

I found a huge amount behind the liner and the mudflap.
What really impressed me however was that there was no corrosion in the area as I feared when it fell out.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

It looks like the caliper is jammed to me by the state of the disc, the pads are only coming into contact with half the disc.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

The disc is moving freely now, but you're right, the lad contact is lacking. Will get that sorted when I do the rear brakes.

With that amount of rust, I'm amazed your splash guards are still whole.

I know, the budget for this is slim, so I'm just doing the essentials for now. The chassis and sills are in decent condition having been treated previously. I bought this in July, so every day is a school day!
