EPB emergency cable really not releasing
Hello
I am at a bit of a loss, the EPB on my 2011 D4 is jammed on, it gave me no real warning aside a very small screech yesterday, then stuck on and screeched this morning. Ridiculous thing is I have new discs pads and shoes and was set to change them this weekend (only as pads and discs warn, epb has always been fine until now).
I have had a 6' breaker through the car hooked to the release cable with me and a mate on each end stood outside putting a lot of upward pressure on and it won't release. I know you have to put a lot on it, but I am concerned we're just going to snap the cable and wreck the headlining!
In case relevant - the car will edge forwards if you give it some, but I doubt it's doing the transmission much good, to move backwards again I had to put in neutral with skids under the back wheels and tow backwards with mate's truck - one wheel actually rolled back ok (so is either released in the hub or just poorly adjusted), the other stayed locked and skidded back so presumably that side is the culprit.
I knackered the epb on my D3 when I used the emergencyrelease (wouldn't relatch), so worried i'm going to be looking at a new one again.
Any ideas?
-can I put infinite pressure on the release cable, perhaps with longer bar or a scaffold tube
-would cutting through the handbrake cable on the tight side do anything to release?
-presumably there's no way i'm going to dismantle the disc/hub and I guess cutting through a cast disc is pretty unlikely?
-also not going to unjam inside the epb module if I can't budge the cable?
-i'm guessing the brake shoe adjuster in the tight hub is also unlikely to move under tension (even if I happen to be able to line up the holes to undo allen key and then get to the adjuster).
help!
cheers
BDW

It does take a fair amount of pulling to release the shoes somewhere in the region of 45lbs plus and it releases in a certain way if I remember so keep pulling it will release the shoes and when you see how it works you will realize why it takes so much pulling Discovery 3 se gone

Releasing the tension on the cables at the brake drum end is an option.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Thanks Geoff,
I have released before on my d3, but not with anything like this much pressure required (2 blokes lifting the car with a 6 foot bar between us) does that sound normal?

It does a bit to much but if you pull the wrong way then you will never get to release it as that cable goes through quite a few bends and turns before it gets to a really small release mechanism and I know that because I was really surprised how easy it is to release the actual part when it was in my hands but how much force it took to release mine the first time it stuck on but Robbie said you can release pressure from rear which I haven't done Discovery 3 se gone

Hello Robbie, how would I do that? Do you mean trying to release the knurled adjuster?

You would be lucky to get at the adjuster I think from the outside unless the holes are already aligned on the drum/disc Discovery 3 se gone

Just pop the e-clip out with a screwdriver.

When you rebuild the rear brakes and refit the clip, do ensure you refit the clip in the correct slot in the ferrule.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Yep, should be as per the picture and not in the next slot as this makes everything too slack to adjust properly.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
