When you say the whole lot, you mean drums, shoes, cables or including actuator/module? What was the actual cause of the problem?

EPB goes faulty unwinds and jammed up.

You may get away with just the EPB change but I would while your at it change the rear shoes as well and get them adjusted correctly and bedded in.

When you say, just the EPB I presume you mean the module?

I can't even get the bloody drum/disc off to evaluate what the problem may be. Tried turning it with a long breaker bar lodged between the studs and no joy. There's a wee bit of play (ie, few mill) which makes me think that perhaps the lining of the shoe has came off and it's lodged between the other shoe.

My next plan is to take an angle grinder and cut off the first 1cm of the drum surface to gain access to the shoes. Only then will I get the thing mobile.

Had thought about cutting the break cable itself but if the shoes have came loose, then that won't make any odds.

Any input to this botched repair very much appreicated!

If you have access to a borescope, take the wheel off and grommet on drum, might be able to see if it's a detached lining. There's a few video's about explaining the epb and what goes wrong with it.

Ha.... afraid not, but I've got access to an angle grinder! See attached.... if anyone else has done this as a mean to remove a disc/drum, then let me know, otherwise I'm copyrighting it lol.

Shoes just seemed to be out to the bump stops if I'm honest and only bound up on the nearside. Could the EPB module be at fault here in that it couldn't unwind the cable on request, or maybe the shoes had just seized right up (adjuster etc)?

You were 90° out to get the adjuster! You can get repair parts for the epb from britpart.

Even backing off the adjuster, I still had to manhandle the whole lot. Think maybe the arm had seized on the shoe, as everything was jammed and no chance it was popping back down with just the release of teh cable.
I've ordered a bunch of replacement parts from JGS 4X4.... pretty decent prices and delivery is fast. Replacement gears for EPB off of fleabay.

My biggest concern is that there's a fault with gears on the module, I fit all of the new parts to the drum and it does the same. That said, I'm positive the emergency release should have done it's thing and that the old crappy parts were rusted and that was the root cause. Any suggestions?

Couple more questions if I may, for those interested in joining in the fun!

1. Given I had pulled the manual release for the handbrake, does this unlatch the mechanism within the module and if so, is it fair to say you need to use a Gap tool to do the latching once reinstating new shoes? Is the alternative to remove the module and do it by hand?

2. How the heck do you gain access to the module? I've watched a few videos now, and sounded easy until I took out the spare and found the upper housing for that is frustratingly, in the way of easy access to the bolts that hold the module housing bracket (see below).
