Hi all
Later this week I'm going to be fitting new discs and pads all round to my 65 plate D4 HSE Lux.
And of course it's the ideal opportunity to clean and service the EPB shoes etc.
I did this every 6 months on my 55 plate D3 HSE, so it's not something I'm too worried about.
But, are there any differences in the EPB I should be aware of between my old D3 and my D4?
Are there any mechanical differences?
Is the adjustment the same?
ie:
Set cables to service mode using IID
Strip it all down, get the old discs off and give inside all a good blast with the airline and clean it all down service, etc.
Wind manual adjusters right back.
New discs on.
Take out of service mode using IID.
Adjust as per D3 using torque wrench at 35Nm - As per Bodsys bible(great document, thanks Bodsy)
Thanks

I have been doing exactly the same on the D4 as my D3 with no issues at all.
I only pulled fuse for Strip / clean / lube etc. Maybe would need to put in mount position for new shoes and discs. Stu

Same idea. There are a couple of extra little springs from the shoe to the backplate, but you don’t need them if you damage them taking the shoes off
Other than that, identical

Manged to get around to this today.
New discs and pads all round, and of course a clean and service etc of the EPB.
But a couple of things to note about how the late D4 differs from the D3 with respect to the EPB.
Firstly, if like me you'd rather only have one wheel off the car and ground at any point you'll need to put the Auto box in Neutral to spin one rear wheel and adjust the EPB.
On the D3 it's obviously as easy as putting the gear lever in 'N' and leave the key in the ignition.
On the D4 8 speed box, if you leave it in N it will put itself in Park after a few minutes.
The way around this is to use the Manual Park release lever under the Cup holders moulding.
Is this actually in the Owners Manual? I couldn't find it so had to look on the forum.
Secondly, the hub nut is 36mm, not 32 like the D3, so you'll need a socket that size to put on your torque wrench for adjusting the EPB.
I unfortunately had to 'Click and Collect' one from my local Halfords, which took a chunk out of the day I didn't expect.
In all other respects, apart from the springs mentioned by SteveNorman, it's the same as the D3.
