So ... I have a "bare" Makita that I picked up on Freecycle, and an AEG drill that I can't get the battery to charge. Is it battery ? is it Charger ? either way it's over £50 to replace whichever I try first and it's bound to be the other.

As I was pulling in to Screwfix I started thinking about getting adapters 3D printed and getting one or two bore batteries.

Anyone any good at trawling Thingiverse or similar ? It seems I'm hopeless. just at that before DSL or HWN leap in on this thread. Laughing

only Erbauer/Makita one I've found on eBay so far was £47 Surprised

And I do know someone who's into 3D printing who owes me a favour or 3 as I had to ferry him and all his worldly possessions back to Leeds when Covid first closed the uni in Manchester !

Dawned on me that if I bought more of the erbauer batteries then picked up a dead makita one, I could do a cut'n'shut to get a working solution.

Sadly, Screwfix have none left Big Cry

Sid's Law dictates that when you buy a bargain new battery, your drill will die a slow death.

The trigger started playing up so I stripped it down and it was fine for a few weeks but died almost totally over the weekend.

Found a Screwfix Community thread discussing what other brands take the same batteries and found there are several almost identical clones, all made by the same Chinese manufacturer as make Erbauer, many selling for a more premium price.

So, courtesy of Amazon, I have a "Wesco" drill arriving tomorrow. £60 including a battery, charger, and a bag. plus a box of bits that may well never get used as I've loads already. It's apparently the name WORX sell under in Germany.

I reckon I got about 8 years of use from the Erbauer, maybe more, and it looks abused because it was ! So I'm reasonably confident the replacement will be ok too.
