I had been on the phone for 25 mins giving him the what if scenario, "so if my car breaks down in Spain and its the engine will you bring me home ?" The answer is yes as long as the car has no other faults or its been in an accident and would be wrote off by your insurance company. He had a lot more idea than the other clown I spoke to. It seems very good cover Del Thumbs Up

They just make the best of everything they have.

The big problem I had was a constant fight with AA was that they wanted me to spend serious money stripping the engine and diagnosing the issue, all at my costs and all at NW Norwegian rates. Before they would do anything they wanted to know what was wrong, that the engine had packed up wasn’t enough. I was lucky, the garage I was recovered to was booked up for a month and let me park the car in their yard til I came back to strip it and recover my gear, then it was off to the scrapper. Luckily I managed to persuade someone in AA technical side that the engine was toast and the only thing I could do was scrap her there, well Harstad near there.

DSL, just picking up on your post, was any import duty payable as it was scrapped in a none EU country?

No, none was due, thankfully. There are official scrapping centres throughout the country where the car could be scrapped for free, one just up the road(ish) in Harstad. The car can be Norwegian or foreign and just needs a VIN visible somewhere, doesn’t even need a reg plate. They prob want cars scrapped properly rather than dumped at the side of the road with anything to identify it stripped off, or torched. Duty was a big stresser when it was all kicking off but once I found out the above that was a big relief. Thumbs Up
