Excessive idling - issues?

My MY16 D4 was left idling by an airport valet parking company for several hours. I suspect they start the cars and let them warm up before moving them and perhaps mine was forgotten. The coolant temperature reached about 80 deg C assisted by the FBH which was running on part load for most of the time.

Firstly, can anyone tell me if leaving a car idling for hours will have caused problems, now or in the future? It appears to be running as well as ever.

Secondly, what should I do about this? I have proof.

Thanks

One offs will not cause any issues, I have seen a cummins 6 pot totally knackered with polished bores from spending day/weeks idling as it was a gritter, only had 30/40k on the clock.

It's never a great idea to leave it idling and it can be the death of an older engine. But given that yours is new the clearances will be tight and the oil pressure should be good, even at a prolonged idle. Some additional diesel will have washed down the cylinders and ended up in the oil, so if you are feeling cautious an early oil change would not go amiss.

Dash cam surprises. Personally, I always want to keep hold of my keys...... too many horror stories - I want to collect it where I parked it - even if it means paying a little more!

What happens if the engine is started and the gear left in Park? Does the eco stop/start eventually kick in? After 4 hours I know that the coolant reached 80 deg C and the fhb was running on half load. Would the engine have stopped?

Anyone know?

Did you get an explanation from the parking company?

There was a news report on TV a week ago or so about damage to cars including a nearly new disco while in the hands of airport valet parking cos. Although this was mostly scratches and damage to paintwork. When we use valet parking we take the 13 year old Rav, wouldn't leave a nice car with them. They managed to create a brake issue with it one time but it corrected itself about 30 miles back from the airport. Sad

Was the car secure while this was happening?

As others have said, My keys never leave me at the airport. Not worth the risk

It was in their compound near the airport.
