Excessive smoke?

Just got a message from the wife about 'loads of smoke coming from the engine' told her it will be the FBH

but she's saying whilst driving on the 7 mile school run it's excessively smoking really bad and embarrassing at traffic lights and smells really badly and the heater in the cab is Luke warm?

I'm thinking it's caked in soot/carbon/s**te?

Is the a way to run it to burn it out? Injector cleaner? High end diesel fill up?

Or looking at a service strip down cleaning of the FBH

I'm away in work till Friday so can't look myself

2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Tonga GreenDiscovery 3

I have suffered exactly that problem during the last months, do not waste money on cleaners, there is nothing to do, I solve it by extracting and checking injectors, 2 of 6 in bad condition, replaced and everything is going well again, and yes, a lot of money.....Im sorry says that!

Well, I assume that the smoke comes from the exhaust outlets and not the FBH......
 lost in translation!

Ruben thanks for the reply

I don't think the injectors are at fault it's my FBH I was thinking of using injector cleanser so when the FBH take the diesel it potentially cleans off the build up causing it to run inefficient? That's if it's not leaking on to the FBH exhaust

Mine was smoking like a Stephenson's Rocket yesterday at a pedestrian crossing - I actually quite like the smell

A faulty egr can cause an engine to smoke, FBH will smoke out of the exhaust under the near side front wing - just search FBH Thumbs Up

If its below 6 degrees and smoking from the front of car it will be your fbh it should clean itself after a few cycles hopefully and once the engine up to operating temp it will stop Thumbs Up

thks

i feel really rude jumping into a post

it was the first time i noticed it,

got out and was coming out of the both rear pipes ,

was bit of a mixture of white with a bit of black puffs , went round to put some diesel in, sat there and held it at 1,500 revs , whilst having the drivers door open then it went as quick as it came

am learning with this engine so please bear with me, i thought then i wonder if the egr is junked up and maybe the butterfly valves could be sticking

checked the intercooler hoses etc for any splits and were ok as far as i could see

this was my last cyl report from the iid

if i raise the revs they all go to the same figure

thks that good to know

the map was blocked solid , going from that would u then assume the egr pipes are also full of crude

got the egr blank kit sitting in my kitchen , know it's no good there Thumbs Up

most of this doesn't mean much to me in what they should or shouldn't be

great learning mind
