It looks like the the flexi has split on my exhaust down pipe
Is it a garage or diy job
How hard is it to get to the bolts
I am thinking about a stainless de cat

In short it's a pain in the people have done it diy, I'm in the middle of doing it. Garages want to take the body off and I can see why. I'm having a jig made to make up upgraded cross over pipes but it's a week or two away from being ready. If you do a forum search someone has done a how to. Jarrod

Agree with Discomadness. When I phoned around some said they would do it by dropping the gearbox which worked out a bit cheaper. I went body off and had a number of other jobs done at the same time. They found that mine had the support bracket missing which is why it only lasted 2 years; so be careful of that as well.

I've looked for a "how to "but can't find one it looks like 3 bolts but not sure if the job is straight forward I no the crossover pipes a real pain but I thought the flexi down pipe would be pretty straightforward
Can any tell me how to do it the local exhaust centre reckon body off ??

The man said DOWNPIPE not CROSSOVER PIPE
To answer the op Ive not done one, I have the decat pipe in the garage but literally cant be bothered, I reckon the 3 x nuts on the turbo could be corroded fun, Irwin bolt removers may be a god send?
I might do mine before the weather starts to shut down.

Whoops. see what speed ready and word association can do ! I got the downpipe off easy enough. Bottle jack with a block of wood under the transfer box, gearbox crossmember off and then the nuts on the top end. I think they were 15mm. Long extension bars and a knuckle joint or whatever it's called. Undo the clamp, my exhaust pushed back enough to decouple. Jarrod

Did you do this without removing the front prop Shaft?

One of the three bolts can be accessed through the wheel arch with a flexy head ratchet combo spanner, the other two with an extra long extension socket UJ, get some good penetrating oil with graphite, not wd40 and start using it now in preparation. Once the three nuts are out cut the pipe in half and remove both ends, you now have plenty of room to fit the new decat pipe, refit with a new gasket and nuts. 3 hours if you are lucky 5 if not.
If you have not got the decat pipe yet you can still attack the three nuts with penetrating oil and loosen them off in preparation, just don't tighten them fully so you can get them off easily.
I wouldn't go for stainless as it may be picked up at mot time and fail. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

That's good going... I removed the prop shaft for two reasons (that I had read) to get access to these bolts and to allow the lowering of the gearbox at the intermediate cross-member(to access bell housing). I must say I am impressed that you can access this and get the decat pipe out
Now that you have cleared the topic up - slightly off topic - I am also amazed that the front prop shaft allows any play to allow the gearbox to be lowered... looks rock solid whereas the rear shaft has a uni. Does anybody know if removal of the front prop shaft allows the gearbox to lower further than if it was left on? I don't have any good memories of those bell housing bolts - the lower the gearbox the better

You will need a Swivel head ratchet combination spanner if you access from under the wheel arch, I don't remember the size It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
