Expedition-Spec Matzker D5
Very nice looking Matzker-modded matte grey Disco 5. I've said for ages I can't wat to see one with a full expo rack setup. And I like what I see. The spots embedded in the grille is also a very nice touch - I was wondering about mounting points.
When you look at the frame in the image below versus my avatar up and to the left... doesn't it make my D4 look so outdated!
Although the matte grey is very sexy, my bro-in-law has a matte finish motorcycle and it's a faff to clean apparently - you can't use anything with any wax in it at all. So wouldn't this actually be a bad finish for an exped/off-road biased edition?
Apologies if it's been on here already . I did have a cursory look.D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

Im not a fan of that actually. Doesn't seem to be well proportioned.
I think its because its too rounded.

Outdated is a word used by some D5 owners to describe the D4 which in my opinion has a functional elegance. The D5 may be full of digital technology but in appearance I personally find the shape both ill-proportioned and bloated.2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Twelve years ago they were saying things like:
"Outdated is a word used by some D3 owners to describe the D2 which in my opinion has a functional elegance. The D3 may be full of digital technology but in appearance I personally find the shape both ill-proportioned and bloated."

Looks good I think, someone needs to figure out a ladder system for it. Notice that hasn't got steps or sliders so getting up to the rack is a question of opening doors and standing on sills or seats.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

You may or not be correct about comments concerning the D2 twelve years ago but please do not edit my post as a quote to make YOUR point.2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

Really good point on the ladder. Hadn't considered that! I guess it would need to be on the right now, rather than the left, to avoid obscuring the number plate?D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

The bloated look not helped by the fisheye effect of the lens when near to objects. You can see other things in the field of view distorted too.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

The same lens distortion exaggerates the size of the rear end in pictures on the forums when taken from the back of the car. IMHO it is still out of proportion in relation to the rest but less so in real life. Pictures of celebs taken by cameras held above them at arms length has the same effect. Big heads tapering to small feet. Or is that jealousy on my part. 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

clever use of the grey on the lower side seems to make the huge rear end loose some bulk from the back.
The D5 is definitely a Marmite vehicle - If people like it then great, I hope they are enjoying their cars and happy with what they have bought. Im sure its a great car when compared to modern offload focussed vehicles, but I still can't see mr buying oneMust stop buying shiny toys....
