Expo rack without fairing
I know some people have taken the fairings off the standard expo rack.
How noisy is this after it is modified? All relative I know but thoughts would be appreciated.

Its still noisy. The main noise is the air rushing under the front edge, and causing turbulence around the sunroof (if you have one). If you have no sunroof, I believe the noise is less.

Yep, I have to say mine is pretty quiet - more noise off my tyres to be honest.
I havent gotten around to it yet but you can put a skirt (for want of a better word) of rubber between the rack and your roof which will help also. The bonus is that when you take off the fairings there will be holes in your rack that you can use to attach the rubber to.
It takes that conehead look off the disco too but not too sure how it will look with spotlights onA happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.
I got the fairing with 4 LR spots & an ali sheet but after putting the neoprene shirt on like AndrewS suggested (search for his thread) it went very quiet indeed.
The main noise is not caused by the air going over the top of the rack and fairing, but the air currents which get buffered between the roof and the underside of the rack, that's why it worse when you put sheet on the rack - however a skirt around the front edges cuts out 95% of the air current under the rack and hence virtually eliminates that noise.LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Thanks - I've no sunroof. I've a 20% off voucher for ebay that's making the Duckworth ones look interesting...

Are you sure, even with a voucher the Duckworth ones @ £520 plus delivery are way off Nicks price. I got mine last Wednesday from him...
Had dealings with duckworth in the past, you bid on things and win when the listing tells you how many they have in stock, only to wait for 3 months as there was a back order at LR.

Good point. TLO has never failed me and deliveries have always been quick.
Clearly a sucker for a good offer!

And if you ask nicely he will fit it cheaply for you, I know its easy enough to do yourself, I was gonna fit fully myself too when I got home, but Nick offered a techy to do it for me for £35. Top man, and worth every penny.
So far my New Expo has transprted a 8ft xmas tree, a bath, and at the weekend a trip to ikea, so it will get used once more
