To extend my warranty, or not? |
|
Hi all
what's the general vibe on extending warranties? my D3 is a 55 plate with 50k miles. i travel about 15-20k per year. haven't had any major probs to date, so not sure of what to expect. what would you all recommend, that i extend my warranty (£800 for year) or just pay for anything that crops up. not sure what would cost more?
thanks in advance,
emer.

It's a gamble...I ummed and arrd for weeks over this one... So with my luck I opted for the LR Extended Warranty, as I knew that as soon as my warranty expired I would have a disaster of epic proportions... So I paid my money and guess what... have so far had 6 months of happy motoring...
Who knows what's around the corner and how much it might cost As you slide down the banister of life

Likewise. Similar situation here. Decided not to pay and just went for the LR assistance - good value IMO. 11 months down the line and so far so good. Still a lot can happen in a month........... May still live to regret the decision.

I decided not to buy any warranty, and rely on The RAC for recovery. I've not needed the RAC, but I have had nearly £2k worth of repairs done this 1st year out of warranty.
Front wheel bearings, rear wishbones and bushes, front lower ball joints. As the car has done over 100k miles, I dont think any warranty would have covered me for any of this. The car was on 90k at 3 years old, so only the basic warranty was available.

What did you have done?
Like others I pondered what to do as I will most likely change at the turn of the year. I went for the LR extended version, as I dont have the best of luck at the best of times.

I had AA extended warranty on my other car which I sold recently, I phoned to cancel it and they said that they would transfer it to D3, £18 a month, not sure how good they are as never made a claim before.
Anyone have any experience of them.

I paid $1299 for 3yr/75000km extended warranty.
It covers every thing but wear and tear....it will depend on whether
the company can survive the economic downturn
They rely on car sales to sell warranties Pete

I purchased a 3yr 60000km extended warranty that was a bit more pricey than Nortos' at $1900. Had to use it within three months of the Land Rover warranty expiring and the work required totalled over $3000. Has worked out being a worthwhile purchase for me.

Didn't take out warranty, repairs cost £220 in the 4th year so am very happy. I did take out an extra year of LRA and didn't need it In fact I don't think in 4 years of ownership I've ever spoken to them. D3 TDV6SE

It's with Allianz. Had the instrument pack, selt belt pretensioner and aircon recirc motor replaced. Also a days labour to track down the cause of the continuous battery drain that was occuring. I am still waiting for another instrument pack though as the new one they installed was faulty and wouldnt allow the car to start. Have the old one back in there which has lost all the chimes and indicater tick.
