Extended Mode....how?
Hi all ... how do you get a 2015 discovery 4 into extended mode............... I have tried holding down the up button for over 5 seconds but nothing happens?????MY 2015 Se tec SDV6 auto

stick a lump of wood under the chassis and try and lower the car.
it detects it cant lower due to an obstacle and tries to lift itself off it .

if I recall there is 50mm extended mode which you have no control over...if you ground out..as said block of wood would check it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,something comes to mind it only works in rock crawl mode but not sure
fairly sure I didn't need to select rock crawl mode.

I can sometimes trick our D3 to do it by going from off-road mode to access mode with the handbrake on, in park and holding the foot brake.
My theory is that by holding all four wheels solid they can't move fore/aft as the car's height and therefore suspension moves. Sometimes this makes the car think it is stuck on an obstacle and it shifts to extended mode.
As I understand it, extended mode can happen regardless of any other settings - the car just needs to think it is beached as Hardware said. Once in extended mode, you can then hold the footbrake and the lift button and it will go into super-extended mode.
Without either mechanical (lump of wood!) or electrical trickery, I don't believe there is any other way to manually put the car into extended mode.Cheers,

Hi all thanks for comments........ years ago I attended LR off road day ........ I seem to remember being told that if you pressed the height up ........ for 10 seconds it would enter emergency mode........... maybe that was in rock mode....(which i have not tried)
I will try the tricksly mode suggested.... and feed back. The grounding - actuation mode sounds a bit dodgy......MY 2015 Se tec SDV6 auto

From what I recall of the few times I've had extended mode active the following happened:
- I was in off road height and became "grounded" (wheels not making enough floor contact)
- the vehicle automatically went into extended mode - it showed on the dash and 4x4 screen
- when I still didn't make progress it offered me the option of going into super-extended mode - the raise button flashed and a message showed on the dash
- by pressing the up button it then raised a bit more.
I've only had it happen twice I think. Next time I'll try to get a video

You have no control over going into extended mode - the car needs to think it is bottomed out and then it will automatically go into extended mode - it cannot be selected manually. TR selection eg Rock Crawl is irrelevant.
What you are getting confused with is going from Extended Height (+35mm) to Super Extended Height. If the vehicle has gone into Extended Height you can manually raise it to Super Extended Height by holding the raise suspension button up for 3 seconds while also pressing the brake pedal. A chime will sound that the command has been accepted. Again - the TR setting is irrelevant.

If I remember correctly in super-extended mode you aren't supposed to turn the steering too far either way? Or is that just a myth I read on the inter-webs?

Rationally thinking you shouldn't turn by much, also if I recall correctly you cannot go faster than 6 kph/mph. It is all because off the driveshaft angles

Hi all .....ok thats interesting...........
I have had a thought.....if I raised car ......... then put axle stands under .... then lowered it onto stands .....it should go into extended mode ........ if it did ........ I should be able then to use super extended........if I then adjusted the axle stands...then lowered the car onto axle stands ....... would I be in a position to remove the road wheels??? (thinking about it....I would probably have to deflate the tryres) Any thoughts.....MY 2015 Se tec SDV6 auto

Yes if you lower the car onto jack stands it will most likely go into extended mode. However - remember the car wheels are still on the ground even in super extended so you will still have to jack the car to get the wheel of the ground to get the wheel off if using the standard jack points. Getting the car as high as possible first just minimises the amount of additional jacking required to get the wheel off the ground.
If this is all about just changing a wheel, then simply put a jack under the relevant wheel lower control arm and jack from there - no lifting of the car is required. By putting the jack there you are directly lifting the wheel not lifting the car first which in turn lifts the wheel.
You need to consider safety and use an appropriate jack if lifting from the lower control arm.

I am sure I read somewhere that with the car running and in offroad mode. Put on the hazard lights get out the car shut the door and you can raise and lower the car from the buttons on your keyfob.
