External transmission oil cooler |
|
Is there anyone in SA that has a separate external transmission oil cooler installed in their D3/D4 in place of the standard cooler in the radiator?
I am interested in the make of cooler used as I am considering installing one after reading of several cases where coolant leaked into the standard transmission cooler in the radiator with catastrophic and expensive consequences, especially on older D3 models. I suppose radiators can only contract and expand so many times before some fatigue sets in.
Any comments welcome.
Cheers

Hi RobV. Did mine last year using 24 row, Kenlowe unit ordered direct from UK. A little fidly but OK in the end and works great. Went to Bots last October and didn't go above 50 deg on oil. cooler. Let me have your E Mail and I will send you 'photo strip of the job. ZF fit a cooler to all the BMW X5s' they have in but believe these are mainly 'extra' cooler rather than seperate cooler entirely.
