Good work, more photos please, why did you not go for hidden winch? From what I can see on the one and only photo you did not do much cutting to the bumper in comparison with other D3's, which I like Would it be possible to remove the winch easy enough when not needed? Probably unlikely in your line of work but then would the hidden which not have been better, sorry if this has been covered before

reason for external was down to maintenance and the need to be able to get at the winch, quickly and easily, as it's going to be used more for work than play aesthetics didn't even come into it,, i need to be able to rely on this thing to get the job done, and if i blow a solenoid then i need to be able to replace it quickly so as not to loose money,,
re the cutting,, there is a fair bit,, you just can't see it..
re removing the winch,, you "could" but you'd be left with a BIG hole and two big bits of metal sticking out,,
To remove that winch you'd have to spool the cable off the drum, undo the four bolts underneath and undo the four bolts holding the cables on. You could probably get it off in 5 mins. Putting it back on is just as quick (if you don't use the split washers ). You'd need somewhere (ideally waterproof) to store the cables, though...might be best to disconnect them at the battery, too.
TBH I don't think it looks that bad withouth the winch in the tray, either...especially if you still put the cover on.
Ady's an Arborist (more like 'arbouring terrorist if you ask me! ) so external / steel cable is the only way to go
You could cut the bumper even less than that if you wanted. I think Ken's is cut closer?
Chainsaw indeed Brain: We must prepare for tomorrow night.
