external windscreen seal

Hi All,

I have noticed on my disco that the plastic panel that runs along the bottom of the windscreen is not sealed to the the actual bottom of the windscreen. Is this normal? please see picture. Is it just a case of running some silicone round it to seal it?

Hi,

I asked the same question a few days ago as mine is similar.

I was told it’s not meant to be sealed, it just butts up to the windscreen.

Hope that helps.

Yes, the scuttle panel is not supposed to be glued onto the windscreen. So it is not unusual to see spaces forming between the rubber edge of the panel and the glass. The windscreen itself is bonded to the body with a glue.

They do warp and discolour in the sun.
You can replace it as the part is not too expensive.
The only pain can be getting the wipers off if they have not been removed for a while.
A proper removal tool helps.

If you’re replacing the scuttle panel (or even if you aren’t), you might want to build a small deflector above the air intake for the cabin air. See https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic106967.html for the discussion.
