Fault code Help 02A7, P02AA and P121A

HI read my fault codes yesterday to find these:

P02A7, P02AA and P121A

Cylinder 4&5 fuel trim minimum

I also have an issue with cold starting and relatively lumpy - had glow plugs changed last year and it is not the battery.

Are these an indicator to injectors ? or the HPFP?

Many thanks

Anyone have an opinion?

It depends if I can claim on warranty as HPFP is covered but injectors are not?

If injectors are these easy to replace or expensive?

Bow down

Probably injectors so consider a spill / balance check before spending money on new ones. Don't presume the fault is with those that trigger the code, look at them all (NB 5 is at the max limit).

Sorry about the warranty thing.

I suspect injectors Crying or Very sad

As Robbie says, check ALL of the injectors. One may be near its max limit, causing the other injector to drop to its min limit.

If you have them removed, and sent to a specialist, have them strip the injectors, to check the nozzles. Been caught out with that before Embarassed

Agree with Robbie about the spill check; would definitely do that, as it would also allow you to confirm that the spill rail is not part of the cause. Strange to have that combination of cylinders all the same. Normally you would expect 1 and 6 to be the first to play-up (opposite corners of the engine with fuel rail issues)

Just thinking that none of us have mentioned the obvious stuff, but just in case can you please confirm you have looked around the injectors for any sign of a small fuel leak?

When it comes to numbering there can also be confusion with code readers, live values and injectors. The ECM actually lists the injectors as 0 to 5, with 0=cylinder 1 and 5=cylinder 6. Cylinders 1 to 3 are also known as Bank A with 4 to 6 as Bank B. To keep a common format and to make it easier to understand some code readers list the injectors as 1 to 6.

Others list by firing order (1 - 4 - 2 - 5 - 3 - 6) which, for a RHD vehicle can make it:

- Driver’s side front cylinder, cylinder 1, injector 1

- Driver's side centre cylinder, cylinder 2, injector 3

- Driver's side rear cylinder, cylinder 3, injector 5

- Passenger side front cylinder, cylinder 4, injector 2

- Passenger side centre cylinder, cylinder 5, injector 4

- Passenger side rear cylinder, cylinder 6, injector 6

The big arrow faces the direction of forward travel:

This has confused the heck out of me at times, but then my brain is very small.

Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the replies!

I had a good look around today and there are no visible leaks from the injectors - they look complicated if they need to be changed?

I DID SEE A FEW DEAD SPIDERS.........

My next questions are

1) How does this lumpy only happen when cold - it runs like a dream when warm/hot no lack of performance. Surely if 1 or 2 injectors have gone it would be rough all the time?
2) What do injectors cost and how hard are they to replace?
3) What are the symptoms of a HPFP failure or reduced pressure from these?

Think its time to get it in to LR Stealers and pay for them to diagnose which injectors have gone!!!

I bow to your knowledge

Welcome to my boat, I've fixed the lumpy start up by using a remote for the FBH. I'm considering replacing all the injectors.... Only thing stopping me is that may not actually fix it and it still may need a HPFP.

Injectors are about £200.00 each.
HPFP about £600.00

All pretty eye watering. I've done 15k since I bought it and it has always done it and nothing seems to be getting worse!

Will,

Many thanks for this nugget........maybe an expensive game.

What would the diagnosis cost be (spill test and HPFP pressure test)? I really hope its the HPFP as that i covered by warranty.....

Steve Norman - where are you based? PM me if you can give me a cost for diagnosis?

Cheers

Hi Steve,

Yeah the results:

1 - Spill Test revealed one injector over compensating for two others and giving max trim
2 - Replace 2 x Injectors
3 - Re-check
4 - Refurb two old injectors ready for more to go wrong

I hope that helps.
