Fault reader...

Out of interest..

No significant concerns on my disco 4 but was wondering how people use the IIID tools? Is it preventative or just when a light comes on?

I'm in Gainsborough in Lincolnshire also. Any recommendations for an independent garage to handle servicing when it comes up.

Many thanks

Stu

Quite a few folks have 400quid plus readers (IID kit) that will allow you to reconfigure and change settings. I have very rarely wanted to do that so I just have a 20 quid reader off ebay that I can leave in the back of the car without having to worry about it being an expensive bit of kit. It allows me to read fault codes so that I have a bit more info to work with, and that I can then decide what I want to do about them.

There are cheaper options available if your only requirement is reading/clearing fault codes.

Some of the good things you can do are,
Stop the auto wipers working and go back to good old intermittent, absolute bliss Thumbs Up
Put the clock on the dash D3 sensible move
Change gearbox oil and reset the adaptive values

In nearly 4 years I have only needed it once to clear a genuine fault and that was just the FBH locked out!
Also uploaded some softeware from Gap called the California Shunt to stop the clonk from the auto gbox when still moving then quickly nearly stopping then moving again, not essentail but it annoyed me so much I was going to get rid of the car.

Some people do lots more, but Im of the school of its working and doing its job leave it alone.

A trip to duckworths at Louth or market raisin is feasible from Gainsborough or its a trek up the A57 to Sheffield or further to Leeds.
The IID BT seems to be the weapon of choice for the good and knowledgeable on here, new from dan at duckworths or watch out for a pre owned in the sale section.

Can I use a generic ODBII dongle to read suspension faults

Hi,

driving home on Sunday I got the yellow suspension warning light come on while cursing around the M25 at 70. I slowed down, but the vehicle seem to be handling normally. When I got home I had a play with the suspension hight and it all seemed to go up and down and stay level. Just went out the the car this morning ands its down on drivers side. The front is worst.

Is this going to be an air spring?
Will a generic ODBII dongle display suspension faults at all?

Thanks,

Ian
