Faults found after service.

Not being the most mechanically minded I thought I would ask those that are for bit of feedback. Had my D4 in for a service today it’s a 2016 lux with 27,500 miles and not abused.
So service done and they tell me they have found a few things that urgently need doing. They say it needs a new prop as the bearing is split and that the front inners both need doing because of play and they will check the outers. Also they say that the NSR rose joint has play, whatever that is and front air bags have slight corrosion. Not being exactly sure on what the waste of time Landrover warranty covers they are saying it doesn’t as it’s wear and Tear. I am a little bit shocked that a car that’s looked after never been abused and only done 27,500 miles should have so much wear and tear.

Cheers

I think I will have to find someone. Seemed strange to me as well. Not sure if any of the things would be picked up on a mot but it had its mot Saturday and passed with no advisories

Main dealer? Or indy specialist? In my experience, some main dealers (generally, not just LR) are very good at "finding work which needs doing". Back in my Volvo-owning days, my local Volvo dealer (Rybrooks in Chester) were absolute b*stards for it - on the couple of occasions I took cars there (once with the V70 Classic and once with a V70 mk2, both times because they were still under Volvo warranty), they managed to find a couple of grand's worth of work which needed doing. Follow-up visits each time to a respected local indy for a second opinion revealed Rybrooks to be absolute chancers, inventing a whole list of jobs which were absolutely not needed. But yeah, definitely get a second opinion!

It was an Indy. They are generally very good and I have used them lots and lots. Not saying they have just jumped gun but as I say just seems a lot for condition of car.

I’d say that they are being over cautious, although I’m only going from age and miles.

Mine is on 114k miles and is over 7 years old and still on its original prop shaft. If that’s gone on yours, it has to be a defect covered by warranty surely!

My suspension bushes (I think that’s what your referring to) needed doing at 75k miles. I think if you lever hard enough, you will find a bit of movement in a new car. If no advisory on MOT I’d leave them alone.

Just done my suspension bushes at 100K and whilst the car also isn't abused, the roads where we live are truly terrible - even compared to the UK. I'd look to claim on warranty if that all needs to be done.

I am guessing it’s the suspension bushes all it says is both front inners have play. I have just had a look at the warranty booklet and if I am reading it right nothing is covered. Must admit the airbags being corroded is bothering me.

By airbags do they mean the SRS or the suspension?

I wouldn't worry about either.

It wont be the air bags corroded, rather the steel base/piston which is nowt to worry about, wheel off for a look see.

The front axle inner suspension bushes always have movement, even when new, use a big enough bar and they can be moved,, but to be fair lower arms are a common defect, again wheel off and a bar will reveal all.

I wonder if NSR rose joint is the top khuckle spherical bush? easy to check with wheel off.

As for centre bearing, to fail at such low miles has to be unusual? the rubber is weak even from new, but so long as not rattling around like a prick in a bucket no worries.

Again not sure what they mean it just says slight corrosion front air bags. It’s all been written on the service sheet. I didn’t really have time to talk as they were closing

Unfortunately like I say not very good with the technical side of them they did also say the outers will need checking so not sure what it refers to then. I think maybe I will just get another Indy to look.
