faults or am I paranoid?

Owned my D3 for a few weeks now, even managed to trip to the French Alps last week Very Happy
I've started to notice a few things, and having never owned a D3 before, not sure if they are issus:

1 On start up the engine is very lumpy, when you slowly pull away the car rocks with the lumpy cold engine. It soon warms up and dissapears, but I'm worried this is a potential issue?
2 When decelerating, there is an engine/transmission whine that can be heard. Infact it's probably there all the time TBH, but I can hear it when I slow down mostly. I've put her in neutral when coasting and the 'whine' is still present??????
3 The sat nav screen used to be quite bright, it's now dulled. I've got the dimmer on full. It's readable but I'm concered the screen's on it's way out????

She's done 70K miles with a FSH.

Cheers
Ollie

Downloaded these fault codes, are they 'normal', or could they be related to my lumpy motor?

P029F - Cylinder 2 - Fuel trim at min limit
P02A2 - Cylinder 3 - Fuel trim at max limit
P02A7 - Cylinder 4 - Fuel trim at min limit
P121A - ?????

Cheers

suspect injector 3 needs replacing, 2 & 4 are attempting to balance it out but the only way to be 100% is to read the real-time data (you need an Autologic or IDS equipped specialist for this)

OK, so the car happened to be in at the dealers today, (for a different reason), and I asked about the rough morning starting. Could they check the engine managment codes to see if there's anything that might point to the direction of a 'potential' problem Question
Conversation;
'are there any fault lights'
no
'Well they'll be nothing logged in the engine mangement system then'
Question Question

Ollie, mine had the same, lucky for me I was on an event and happened to mention it to TFC. He checked the car with Autologic and diagnosed the same problem you have. I was then armed with good information to take to the dealers (warranty job). They couldn't understand how I knew what was wrong and tried to fob me off with it's still within parameters even though there is a fault code. They wanted to charge me for diagnostics so I just said I,m not paying for diagnostics the car has a fault you find it and fix it. They then got onto the warranty people and a new injector was fitted. The difference is the car is smoother on cold morning starts and the MPG increased. A lot of people wouldn't have even noticed the fault I suppose but this sort of fault could explain alot of peoples poor MPG.

So even though the you may own a car that is in warranty, I would still recommend having say TFC plug in your car for whatever fault I don't know the charge but it will be reasonable, you can then go to the dealer well informed with valid problem that they are going to find hard to deny.

If you are out of warranty then TFC will fix it.

Simple.

I should mention of course there are other independants available

Who's TFC? I can't find that username.
Thanks for the info Thumbs Up Sounds similar to mine, I have a BAS unit that I can view the fault codes on, that's how I managed to get them.
I might still look into getting it checked independantly.

Cheers

Hi Ollie, any news from the dealers since we spoke the other day ?

As said in this thread if the dealers dont want to look you need to get it looked at to find the cure.
A independant with IDS or Autologic as said can do this for you.

Or if you fancy a trip to York ill do it for you no problem, of course for free.

Regards Pete

my car is at the dealer as we speak for the same issues... engine vibraton when cold + sluggish performance.
the dealer is telling no fault codes - no issues, but I know the the car isnt right.

not sure what to do?

My local dealer used the stock "We can't find a fault, Sir" excuse with me one too many times..............That's why I'm driving 150 miles to Yeovil for my next service.

I've been a bit lazy on this one, knowing i have a years warranty.
I still need to force my local to take this in and look at it, it's quite rough in the mornings now........
