mine was behaving in a similar way a few winters ago Gary, using the Webasto software + the OBD lead Martin has suggested and doing a few purge & burn type operations fixed it.
So glad I first bought a second hand FBH which I rebuilt with a new burner and glowplug..
... which is still in the shed 3 years later; beforehand and theeeeennn......???

Going to pop the fuse out this morning ,
In answer to an earlier question. My FBH does sweet FA, as far as I can tell it doesn't even try to fire up.Andy.

Hi Gary,
at the time the burner starts to fire full power (after the fan has been running) try a gentle blow down the inlet or a wiff of "life support" if that gets the burner to get past the initial start up, then let it run its full time and see if that helps
Mine improved after a few good long burns but was still a bit hit or miss

Checked the fuel level and pulled out fuse 28, job Jobbed.
Went to it this morning to sort but my good lady had left it on empty, so put 3/4 tank in and pulled the fuse, came back from a trip out this evening and the top of the FBH was warm so it think all is now ok.Andy.

I took mine off to clean it internally and thought I'd cracked it after a short run, because I felt some heat in it...but it seemingly turned out to be residual heat off the engine/hot coolant running close bye....as after further investigation it appears to be as dead as a dead thing! I need to get my Nanocom switched over to this car to diagnose further.
I hope yours turns out to working correctly Discovery 4 HSE SDV6

Mark, how are you enjoying the D3 after the D2, I recognized your user name from d2bc.
I have had to change mine as somebody already has Snowy on here.
I can't believe that I stuck with the D2 for so long, loving the D3. Andy.

Hi Snowy,
I adored my D2 and it carried me and my family faultlessly, apart from what would be considered serviceable items for 40000 miles and still had loads of life left in it when I sold it.....but the D3, in my opinion, is in a different league altogether in many ways.....I just hope it proves to be as reliable long term.
Hope you're enjoying yours in similar way Discovery 4 HSE SDV6

Back to square 1, the heat I had felt was residual engine heat and not from FBH.
Do I need to get plugged in to clear the fault and reset.
If so can somebody local please help..Andy.

Pulling fuse 28 did not clear the "lockout" fault on mine. I had to use Hawkeye to clear the code then it fired up.
