Felt strip from glove box

Driving to work this morning and noticed something hanging out of the glove box. On closer inspection it was a stick on black felt strip about 1cm wide and 30cm long that was hanging out from the recess underneath the bottom front edge of the upper glove compartment (you can access with your fingers when the bottom compartment is open but top one closed). I could see no use for it so pulled it off before it came away totally. Does anyone the reason for this strip?

Thanks

Yes it is the glue that holds the car together !

Removing this will surely lead to EGR failure, turbo failure, split intercooler hose and last but not least the cam belt tensioner mounting bolt will shear detonating your engine internals !

I'd put it back !

By removing it, you've probably invalidated your factory warranty!

Thank's for the answers/comments. My only concern is that some horrific squeak or rattle will occur. Has everyone else got one? Also thought it could have been left over from the manufacturing process.

Ps I'm in the Everton area of Doncaster.

Andy.

That's not Doncaster! You might have a Donny post code, but you're well and truly planted in Nottinghamshire! I have sad memories of a Tornado crash there several years ago, with the sad loss of two brave lads.

It was 1999, when (I won't speak ill of the dead!) a Cessna was flying lower than it should have been with its transponder turned off, the occupants taking aerial photographs (no doubt to later flog!) over Mattersey. A Tornado flying at the same height hit it and killed all four. What was left of the Cessna floated down in bits around Mattersey, with the Tornado crashing in a field just to the north east of Everton.

I was sent to the Tornado (Traffic Police at the time - in the good old days when Notts had such creatures!) and when I got there, it really was a WTF moment! Bearing in mind the things I had seen at road crashes etc, the sheer scale of this thing was unbelievable; the remains of the Tornado being spread over an area about 100m wide by 4-500 m long.

Just read the item from today. Doesn't look good for one crew sadly, but fortunately the others are ok.

I had the same the other day when I stripped the dash out to fit a rear view camera this strip of felt fell down, its just a padding for the glove box lid when its shut I presume to stop it squeaking.

Thanks for the replies - greatly appreciated. Unfprtunately I didn't check exactly where it was stuck before I pulled off the last part. If I start to get a sqeak and want to replace can you describe where it should be for me.

Thanks,

Andy.

My felt strip came off over a year ago, and there have been no untoward noises coming from that direction since then, so just bin it!

Dont do that, put it in the garage drawer labelled 'D3 bits and pieces - broken, worn out and replaced because i wanted to spend more money'.

I'm going to need a bigger drawer soon Shocked
