trying to help a horsey friend with fencing....done it before..and it was reasonable price......but recently prices can only be described as obscene...wondering if a trade account status would help and what sort of discount would apply

Timber prices have rocketed since the first lockdown. I went to pick up a sheet of OSB and thought they were charging me for 2, they used to be about £22 a sheet now they're £40.
I'm not sure about local merchants, worth a try, but you can get a Wickes Trade card which gets you 10% off. Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey

I always email and let them know I've been quoted x amount from another supplier, but we have quite a few local timber merchants

There right, timber prices have gone through the roof.
Treated timber i was paying £1.50/m early this year I'm now paying £4/m for, and I go through 100's of meters of the stuff Just remember:-

Try a local farming supplier like mole Vally farmers etc , fencing timber might be lower there 
Don’t talk about building timber prices  -------------------------------------------------
if you cant hold on dont let go , it ill come in handy for something even if you never use it.
