Fibre Optic Loop Bypass

Hi all,

I’ve just finished installing a replacement screen with wireless CarPlay etc in my 54 plate D3, everything works great although I need to figure out if it’s possible to get the buttons to skip songs working from the steering wheel.

The only part I’ve had an issue with is the supplied fibre optic loop bypass isn’t very good. I need to hold the loop fibre pressed firmly in otherwise it crackles or cuts out completely.

Can anyone recommend a good place for a replacement loop please? I’ve seen them on amazon / eBay etc but didn’t want to waste money if they’re going to be the same quality as the one I have already.

Thanks very much,
Jamie.

Your new head unit may have settings to remap the steering wheel buttons, mine does and you can set short and long button presses for different functions.

Hi loanrangie… I’ve accessed that option and it doesn’t pickup the signal for the buttons in my case sadly. I assume it may be to do with my model year or the canbus decoder supplied. The seller did say everything will work except the steering controls so I’m just trying to find a way of tapping into them even if that means adding wires directly to the switches.

Does your adapter harness have the wires for it ?

Absolutely no idea. I need to find a wiring diagram as I’m not sure which wires send those signals. There were some unused connectors but only from the old screen not from the head unit.
