Final couple of questions before ordering |
|
Apologies for bombarding the forum with questions but I'm pretty close to opening my cheque book and signing on the dotted line !
As an adopted Yorkshireman, I want the best dealer price and also have an eye on the resale value so my questions are:
Has anyone dealt with Farnell in Leeds ? Any good on price and as importantly honouring delivery dates ? The Jag dealer let me down on a pretty optimistic date that I reckon was set just to get the business from Sheffield and I don't want to fall for that again. Also I need to pay be 31DEC10 to avoid the VAT hike so I don't want them sitting on my dosh and me without any wheels for months.
Do I go for the tow pack as a factory fitted option (which benefits from the 3 year warranty) ? I don't have any plans to tow anything but I guess it's a useful point to pull the numpties up the hill/out of the ditch rather than using the tie-down and risking any damage. Will I see a return or at least no loss on the 500 quid ?
I think I've talked myself into an HSE with GBP2k of extras rather than an XS with GBP6k of extras to bring it up to similar spec (HDD stanav, xenons + briight pack, electric seats, camera) but the only difference I can see is the premium leather on the HSE vs the standard stuff on the XS and there's still a GBP3.5k difference so I keep stalling over it .
If I get the HSE in the nice bronze and light leather, do you reckon black or walnut inlays ?

I assume the D4 still has the recovery point behind the tow electrics cover - you should use this with a decent shackle and tow strop for pulling anyone out rather than the tow ball, it is much safer, and you can get all of that for considerably less than £100 from several forum members. There is also the front recovery point as well.
As for your other choices, I am some way from being in the same boat so I shall pass....... Craig

Thanks for the offer buellbeast. Whereabouts are you ? I'm visiting the dealer in the morning and I think they have a couple of demos available just not sure on the colour schemes. 2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT

Go for the HSE, it will be far more desirable when you come to sell it on.

I think the D4 will hold its price for a good time to be honest, looking at the D3 which has done the same.
I cant speak for Farnell but i know my York Armstrong Massey dealer had some D4's in stock depending on what you are after new/used etc etc it may be worth a call.

I think if you are ordering spec specific then I v much doubt you will get it before VAT goes up. Mine took 4 months to arrive and 99% of the time it is around that long! Also you cant pay until the car is at the dealers......or at least until it has a chassis number in the factory

Ordered, deposit paid and a delivery date of 22DEC10 agreed. Guy Salmon had a delivery date of 26JAN11 and, if you pay up front, the VAT rate increase could be avoided. But I like my deal at Farnells and have always been a fan of the co-op
Now Richard, my new bestest friend, will be watching this website because I gave him the URL and he'll know that just over 12,000of us are hanging on the December delivery date. No pressure then 2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT

A question, which is worth more in the long run...........
either paying less VAT and getting a 2010 car, or
paying more VAT for a 2011 to get an increased price when you come to sell it Bazza M111
D4 11 MY HSE Stornoway
Defender 90 CSW (the one that gets very dirty....)
Lotus Elise (the one that is kept very clean....)
