First breakdown
Had my first breakdown with the disco (5 trouble free years and 136,000km....) so just sometime to watch out for.
I broke the right rear side shaft and after inspection I found rust in the CV boot. The CV boot was not damaged at all so I’m a bit concerned and will inspect the rest of the CV boots this coming weekend and replace the grease with marine rated grease.
Thanks Tiaan - something that one will have to ask your indy/stealer to check say every 80-96000 kms.

Something to keep in mind with a side shaft failure:
I pulled the shaft and engaged rock mode (since it lock the centre and rear locker). It work for awhile but as the TC system sense that the left and right wheel is turning at different rates (the shaft end has the TC pickup gear) it disengage drive....
So I removed the shaft end on the wheel side with the TC gear and try to fool the car. This work but being on sand it was just marginal and whenever I turned I lost drive.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STt7DmJeeVc

Yup the car has become too clever . I once had it spit its dummy and drop to the bump stops because I put my "road" spare on with my offroad tyres .

care to mention the tyre seize difference? How did you manage to upset splines on rear drive shaft, v8 power? A few mods... and keeping it all running...Faultmate MSV2

My offroad tyres as about 5mm bigger than the std road tyres . The side shaft was done on another occasion (mainly I was being an idiot )
