My first fault - total loss of power! |
|
Was moving from gravel (under gravel setting on TR) to tarmac. Switched off TR(going about 5mp. Suffered loss of any throttle response, car carried forward at approx 5mph. Pulled over and stopped. Put gear into park - large buzzing sound (like a comedy electric shock noise).
Turned engine off. Turned back on working fine.
Thoughts?

I've noticed the same thing as well once after going through a ford. After switching the TR dial from the gravel setting back to tarmac, there was no throttle response at all. From what I remember, moving the gear selector into "N" and back into "D" sorted it, I didn't need to switch off the engine.
No idea what your buzzing noise was though! Parking brake? (especially if muddy)
If someone knows the cause I'd be interested too!

Are you sure you actually ended up in standard tarmac mode, and not another TR mode that activated your Hill Descent Control for you? That can be loud and electricy sounding and still surprises me when turned on out of context.
When changing modes there is a definite gradual changeover of the throttle response (I guess to ensure that you don't suddenly charge off like a whippet with a bum full of dynamite when the maps change over).
I have noticed sometimes that if you change mode whilst still using the throttle, then the old mode stays with you until you release the throttle. I have driven some 100m+ up to a roundabout like this (gravel mode provided very little apparent power) and the mode didn't fully change until I slowed down for a roundabout and released the pedal for a couple of seconds. After that I drove off as normal without requiring a restart. Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

The noise you describe happens if you select PARK when in low range and possibly still rolling forward a little.

Stapldm - that could be it - I was at the end of the lane, joining a busy road and wanted the D3 to leap forward doing its best startled rabbit impression but maybe I just pressed the pedal down as much as I normally do which wouldn't be enough if it was still using the gravel throttle map.
Think I'm going to have to splash through that ford again to check!
