First MOT for my D4...

It passed eventually. I was astonished to be told that it had a missing wheel nut on front offside. When we examined it, from the rust and dirt on the stud threads, it had been missing for some time. Luckily I had a spare locking nut in the car, so fitted it and he was happy to carry on with the test.

Then came the park brake test. He used a tapley meter and we eventually managed to get the car into bedding in mode to test the epb.

Then he put it on the ramp, but the ramp jack was a real effort for him to lift the wheels to check bearings etc. He did it in the end, but I thought he was going to bust a gut doing it!

Then came the lights test and he failed the headlamp aim, saying they were way too low. It's got the active cornering xenons so we had a long discussion about the law and in the end he adjusted them up until they met his satisfaction.

The emissions were so low that the machine just said no emissions registered! He said this was normal for the D4 3.0.

Anyway it passed!

So got a pass, but he said to me he hates testing D3 and 4. H

Good news in the end but it sounded like it was a big performance.

What was a worry about the wheel nut Shocked

I'm annoyed with myself really. I am pretty fastidious about maintenance and like to think I keep all my cars properly maintained. I even check the tyre pressures regularly and still didn't spot it missing! I towed the caravan to Brighton and back last weekend.

The place I use is very good. They let me have a good look under the car whilst it's up on the ramp. I take all my cars to them, and they love testing my Series 2a.

Thumbs Up

Always a good feeling to get it through its MOT.
And of course it does mean yet another year of trouble free motoring. Wink
