First time towing
First outing with the new D4 towing the tintent tomorrow. Looking forward to how it compared to the remapped D3. D4 is not mapped but expecting good things.
Off to Scotgate just outside Keswick on the A66. Cracking site with some great pubs in Braithwaite. Looking forward to it

Any time spent in the lakes is time well spent in my eyes.
I'm certain you won't be dissapointed with towing in the D4. Enjoy it and let us know how you get on.
Looks like you're in for a cracking bit of weather also. #Winning! 8)Bri

Little bit of an issue compared to the D3.
It’s so bloody hard to keep to 60mph it was effortless. The D3 was good but this has it beat no problem. Not checked the final mpg but I did have a look on the road and it was low 20’s so about the same as the D3.D4 MY15 SE TECH

Have used our D4 for towing our Airstream 1700kg Caravan since new in Jan 2011 (the D4 - the Airstream was new in 2009) and have been all over France, Germany and the Lowlands as well as the UK without any problems and we have the detachable tow bar HOWEVER we always remove it if staying on a site for more than 1 or 2 nights. Had it tested by our LR dealer recently and they were happy that it was still in good order.

TED,
What sort of MPG can I expect towing that weight on long journey's. Got a Lunar at 1480kg, but only towed cross country, within 80 miles so far, so MPG was quite crap. Looking to replace the TT in a year or 2 with something around the same weight as yours.MY07 Freelander2 SE Santorini Black - Gone

The D4 is not the most economical car to run! I get around 22 mpg towing and 28 solo. It doesn't seem to matter how hilly the route is BUT speed does matter - I try to keep to the legal limits especially on motorways where if you creep up when towing then the MPG drops drastically.LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF

My Elddis is 1800kg when full - if I stay below 60 then just into the low 20's mpg on the lie-o-meter (so in reality maybe just 20). If I crack on a bit, as I have done once or twice when sur-la-continent, then I have seen the lie-o-meter at 19, which is closer to 17mpg
You stop looking at the MPG after a while, just enjoy your hols

request the wieght plate upgrade to 1800kg otherwise you have a very low user payload limit.
There are a few mods I have done since buying it, maostly internal like changing light switches and adding sockets, plus lifting the sparewheel carrier by 45mm so that it doesnt catch on speedbumps.

Don’t think it’s so much to do with weight but airflow with Tintent, our previous van, 1500kgs Bailey Senator, was returning 19/20 mpg, current van Swift Elegance with a weight upgrade to 1800kgs, returns 22/23mpg.

That is a great looking tourer Ted...
We have been seriously considering an Airstream when we downsize our house on my retirement and hope to visit Swift pretty soon to see the new range... 8)
One thing bothering me though is the fact Swift seem to do all the fitting out on the base shell they import and they do not seem to be the same style or build quality of the ‘genuine article’...
No doubt we will see but I suppose we could consider an imported genuine International...

Think you will find that the Airstream come in to the UK fully fitted now -- it was the previous company at Tebay that used to fit them out here. The designer at Tebay now works for Airstream so there is continuity.LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF
