Fitted: Arb Touring Awning to OEM roof bars.
After playing around with different ideas I decided to fit an ARB 2.0m x 2.5m Touring awning. I chose this as others were only 1.8m off the side of the vehicle and I wanted as much cover as I could get. I also bought a side and front walls.
The awning basically came with six T-Track nuts/bolts a couple of pegs/tie downs. Brackets are sold separately. I also wanted a quick release system for extra security. ARB do all the stuff needed so I hit the inter-web and got ordering.
These are the brackets from ARB.
As there are no fixings I went and got these. I also got the Dremel out and cut a slot into the ends. This was to help installation and to show that they were in the right direction.
I’m sure you all know what the bar looks like.
I lined up the bracket and cut our the rubber insert to length.
I wasn’t completely happy with how it sat on the plastic trim so added a washer.
Bolted it all up. Slots came in very useful.
Next was the ARB quick release kit. It came with some silver bolts that I didn’t end up using. I chose to use some T-Track ones. A 12mm spanner held them in place whilst I bolted them up.
Should end up looking like this.
Just the job of measuring the distances and attaching the other side of the quick release to the awning. As I said earlier the awning comes with six nuts/bolts and standard T-Track bolts won’t fit. As it turns out I could have used anymore bolts anyway. I used two on the top edge and one on each bottom edge for the best support.
And that’s it. Feels really secure when bolted on and I can remove it in under a minute.

Looks a very tidy install. I fancy something like this for the odd day trip etc.
I'd also like to see it deployed.

Just got back from a camping trip. The awning was very handy. It rained heavily as we turned up so all my kit was stored under it until the tent was up. The pitch came with a bench so stuck that under the awning for some afternoon drinking and F1.
