Fitting dash mounts for phone, pda, screen etc

Even though my HSE has the LR sat nav, I'm going to fit my SmartNav unit and touch screen also as this is now only sitting in a box and might as well be used. It is also far better at routing than the LR sat nav. It will also be a tacking device too.

Therefore, I'm looking for two dash mounts - one for the SmartNav touch screen (wants to be as high as possible) and the other for my phone cradle & charger.
Dashmount do a mount - see http://www.dashmount.co.uk/sept04/71044.htm
I've always used Dashmounts in the past. This one will be ideal for the phone cradle or SmartNav screen. However, the Dashmount panels often are quite thick metal and while they are strong and well made, they can be a bit tight fitting between the plastic trim panels and leave a gap or strain on the surrounding panels.
Brodit also sell two mount panels - see http://www.brodit.com/montering.jsp?anr=653573 and http://www.brodit.com/montering.jsp?anr=653572
These would possibly be a better solution for me as they do two mounts, so I can use one for my phone and the other for the touch screen. They say they are made from plastic, which may make them easier to fit. However, they look like they will also leave gaps as they fit between trim panels. What I don't want to do is force apart two panels only to snap clips or make them squeek.

Has anyone used these or are there any other options on the market?

I have a dashmount (a cheaper copy off ebay actually) and it works fine, could do with being a tiny bit thinner maybe but it doesn't put any strain on the trim panels and if it was any thinner it wouldn't be strong enough

I considered getting another one intended for the right hand side but decided it would be too close to the steering wheel and liable to be knocked, I'd have thought you'd have the same issue with the Brodit one. A second one lower down on the left would be better so I may have a try at making my own

If you don't have the satnav, you could try what I did.
I took an alu checker plate and 2 euh damn whats the name for tose things like on a door that make the door turn?
Anyway, fixed that before the empty space.
On the plate you can fix whatever you want, and you can still access the space Wink

I'll try to post a picture

I’m going to fit one of the “Dashmount” consoles as you can hide some of the wires. I’m fitting a hardwired THB Bury take and talk system to supplement my PTI system as they do separate cradles for my various phones and PDA’s. Dashmount have confirmed availability of them although you cant order them online yet

Also the console fits lower than the bracket so it might be a solution for those who want to use two!

I have a brodit mount in mine for my PDA and it fits very well, my only concern is the double sided tape they use may rip when taking it off but that should clean off ok.

Just had a Nokia kit fitted this week wioth Brodit mount. I had one of the dashmount type in my last car. Brodit looks far superior, and is better made.

Ken, looks good - just about to upgrade to a 6280

What parts did you need for the D3 installation, where did you get them from and does the bluetooth work OK?
