fix for vinyal side of leather drivers seat
Hi
I am new here, thanks for all the great tips and info. I got my 05 HSE last August and have been trying to get a fix for the tear/ rip in my leather seat! I ve tried a smart repair - that didnt work as the side of the seat moves everytime someone sits on it! I went to a specialsit leather interior firm who said they couldnt replace the piece on the side as it goes right into the stiching!
Can anyone suggest any ideas on how to fix? Its the thin piece that runs along the side of the seat cushion (the edge of the bit you sit on) I priced a replacement seat cover - about £250 but was told the colour might not match well as mine is 3 years old - the colour is Tundra.
Any advice will be really appreciated.

SKbaker Hi,
maybe keep your eyes on the breaker's yards, you might be lucky and be able to find a replacement
seat, if it's not repairable, it depends how much you are prepaired to spend, I would have thought a
good upholsterer would be able to re-cover it. Good luck Always walk behind a Shooter and

A good auto trimmer will replace that whole piece of leather and sew it in using the same needle holes and you will never be able to see the repair.
If you take the seat out and remove / refit the cover yourself it won't come to that much..

Try Kev and Phil Allwood, Trimline systems. 01252 321541. Might be a bit far from you but I have used them and they are first class. Usual disclaimer, just a satisfied customer.

If your after a good simple cleaner conditioner, Poorboys leather care, Autoglym leather cleaner and conditioner are good.
If you want to spend more time on them then Gliptone cleaner and conditioner is very good, but time consuming. All work well in the car and on household leather.....even a certain mods gimp mask would come up well
A guy I work with had a split in the side of his drivers seat, he got someone local to replace the whole of the side piece, I'm seeing him on Wednesday so can ask details of where and how much it cost, he was very pleased with the end result. As you slide down the banister of life

I think you will find that bit is vinyl, not leather as in the title.
You can get vinyl repair kits but I don't think you get one to match the colour. Now if it was black..................... “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

The first thing I would do is to write to the Managing Director of Smart Repair and show him the photo of the mess they made of your seat, and get your money refunded. That job is outrageous! m1ke's Photos on Flickriver
Hi Skbaker... Asked my friend about his seat today at work... BTW he drives a Disco 3 also. The company he used are called Autotrim, based in Knowsley Industrial Park, they are in the Yellow Pages. They replaced the entire side piece in leather not vinyl and it cost him £50. I've had a look and you would never know that it had been repaired. His seat is in black not Tundra but if it is fairly local it may be worth asking their advice.... Mods... can I give the phone number in open forum? As you slide down the banister of life
