Fixed/3-height Towbar Confused.com |
|
Ok, As per my other thread I have two removables that I need to replace with the 3-height fixed version. Not had any takers for a swap yet so may go down the sell and buy route before long hence started looking on ebay. I found several times the Witter bar listed complete with the LR007484 part number.
Do I take it that Witter are the OEM manufacturers and have now got license to sell direct with their own logo since the Disco3/4 is end of line or is it the sellers just putting the LR number to entice more buyers?
Also, if the witter is not OEM what are is the experience of these on here? LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

I am certain Witter do not supply Land Rover with tow bars for D4. The adverts are advertising their part as equivalent to the LR number . The parts shown are not the same as supplied by Land Rover. Having said that, Witter are a well respected make.

I think the OEM supplier of the Land Rover bars is Thule.

Have you tried getting Landrover to change it free of charge. If you tell them you tow weekly, up to the max limit, or livestock, they may well change it free of charge. They did an inspection on my D3 said it was ok, i then contacted customer services and they agreed to fit a fixed towbar free of charge.
Worth a try

Dear Mr xxxxxxx
Land Rover Discovery -xxxxxxx
I am writing to you following our telephone conversation on 24th March in reference to Customer Satisfaction Programme, Q393, Detachable Tow Bar.
I can appreciate that you are concerned following the recent campaign that was carried out on your vehicle by xxxxx Land Rover xxxxxx. Your vehicle did pass the tests that were carried out, however you mentioned that you use your tow bar on a weekly basis towing an increased load weight.
Taking all the information into consideration, Land Rover are happy to offer, as a goodwill gesture, to fit a fixed multi height tow bar to your vehicle. Please be advised I have made contact with xxxxx, Service Advisor at xxxxxxx to make them aware of this gesture. If you can arrange for your vehicle to be booked in with them for the tow bar to be fitted.
I hope that following the fitment of the fixed tow bar you continue to use your vehicle for it's towing needs without any concern.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further assistance.
Yours sincerely
xxxxxxxxxx

My friend who tows regularly through Europe had the fixed towbar installed by LR following inspection on his 07 D3 in 2014.
Seems that LR are prepared to change them rather than risk possible litigation. Conditional on a full LR service history I seem to remember.
When he bought his new one later on in 2014 the Dealer threw in the fixed towbar foc as a loyalty gesture.

Thanks guys, I will definitely give that a try because I had the MY2010 inspected and they said it was ok, but the towbar is always loose and rattling after I do tow and nowadays I tow several times a week with 2.5+ tonnes on the back LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

When I took mine in for the "service action" I explained that I spent half my mileage towing a caravan. The dealership changed the removable towbar for a multi height fixed towbar without any issue.
However, they fixed the towball at the 450 mm position saying that it was the same height as the detachable - WRONG. The ball needs to be at the 400mm position to match the removeable. Check out my post in Caravanning and Camping. MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

You may also need to search under the manufacturer's name of "Brink" for the OEM part. The Whitter item looks similar to the OEM part, but it is defiantly not the same thing. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
