FFS get a proper spare if you are going off road. (where is the slap face emoticon)
What happens normally is they break or snap off along this yellow line. Once snapped job done. I took mine off tidied up the break with a mini grinder and replaced it.
DG I don't think its a warranty replacement any more.
In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

neither to do I ,
I had my first 3 replaced under warranty. the 4th time the dealer tried to replace it about 12 months ago they called me back and said "Land Rover Says Nooooo..."
I would say its a design fault, so should be covered under warranty, but it wasnt worth arguing about.Duncan

Neil you plonker, what Andrew says. Although it might be amusing to hear how HDC works on wet mud with a spacesaver on I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Ok ok ok, not even looked at the spare before, so its not normal size? right, will a normal size wheel fit in the space?. I've got a tyre, anyone got a rim?
To echo Spotters comments, should it have a full size spare being an 08 HSE?

My dislikes? 1. Spacesaver wheel 2. silly looking (and vulnerable) plastic skirt.
My question - What about having a full-size spare (long-term plan sometime) with its (relatively) more valuable tyre heat-protected, instead of by silly plastic skirt, by an insulating, tight-fitting cover made of asbestos-like material (modern safe equivalent) covered by Nomex or similar? Cover only needs to extend over front 1/3.
Daft question?

You might have something there, surely something could cover 2/3rds of the tyre snuggly and disguard the current protection?.
You seem to have done a pretty decent job of dis-guarding it
We've all done it. Usually in the first couple of trips offroad you'll see at least part of that shield crack, split or just vanish. I doubt that you will damage the tyre if this shield was removed. The temp that rubber is vulcanised is about 185deg I have no idea what temp the exhaust is at the rear of the car, I cant see it being hot enough to cause concern.
