Some years ago I was working for a few days down at Jaguar and they had a test car with some of this kit fitted. The clever bit was they were projecting the image from the top of the dash up to the inside of the windscreen in front of the drivers view. This image was lined up to match the real view with your eyes so in effect you could see both simultaneously. It got really clever when they started processing the image through a computer in the boot so that important objects like other cars and pedestrians were brightly coloured on the windscreen you were looking through.
Two of the headlights were replaced with infrared bulbs and we had great fun driving down the country lanes around Coventry in total darkness and yet being able to see like daylight! 8)
Freaked a lot of people out - don't know why we haven't seen it on a production vehicle yet?
