Just been listening on talk sport and apparently the players can't legally be furloughed.. Don't ask me how but it's a specific contractual issue to them that doesn't apply to the mere mortals below.MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car

I'd guess the players have contracts to ensure they get paid if, for instance, they break a leg and are out for months. Reasonable in that case.
However ... if you get paid a fortune by an industry that is in danger of collapsing, then you'd think they'd say "on this occasion but not as a change to contract" .... then let the clubs retain a percentage.
Iggy probably remembers this ... when Mark Hurd (the T is not silent but is written H) ran HP, he asked us all to not take a pay-rise due to needing to retain more money in the company (to make up for bad management). Sounds good ? However, we in the UK declined it because he then continued "but you will make up for it in your bonuses". Except most of the UK didn't get bonuses.

Dean,
I thought the PFA paid their wages if they were injured. So obviously the PFA take a portion of their salary. Can't believe there are insurance policies one could take out. Maybe I'm wrong.

Footballers contracts are nothing like normal employment contracts for a start they can be brought and sold, they cant quit even with notice, they are contractually obliged to provide services for the the length of their contract etc==================================

They get assistance for career ending injuries not "routine" ones.==================================

Not the first one Aston Villa's Jack Grealish crashed his RR going out to visit a mate the day after recording a video urging people to stay in.==================================

Just read an article on BBC News with an interview with Wayne Rooney about the football players' pay cut.
Irrespective of the rights and wrongs of the proposal - and I am making no judgement on it here - Rooney does make the point that there are plenty of sports stars who manage to become resident in tax havens and pay little tax in the UK. PFL footballers have little scope to be non-resident in the UK and will pay tax approaching 50% on most of their earnings (plus the club will pay Employer's NI), so perhaps it's not as straightforward as it seems.
And that is why i have no affection for Lewis Hamilton - made up some c**k and bull story about being hounded away by the press but in reality it was the tax haven he was really looking for.

Just like the beloved-by-all Button and DC too, of course. Neither of their decisions was queried by the media though.
Jackie Stewart did too (but in Switzerland) back in the day when he was earning, although he moved back to Blighty and lives in Buckinghamshire. Strange that he didn't move back to Scotland - he wears enough tartan to make himself look like a Scottish doll most of the time.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk
