And a great clay shooter. Remember seeing him come out of his father’s garage in an E type and screaming up the dual carriage way to Glasgow in the days before speed restrictions. My mate who had a Daimler Dart V12 used to do the same. What a ride drifting round the roundabouts. Happy days.2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. In fairness to Jackie Stewart those were the days when he was probably being taxed 99% of his earnings, who wouldn’t decamp to another country under those conditions.Discovery 4 HSE

appols if this has already been covered:
I know top footbal players earn big money, but its a very short career. Why aren't other top sportsmen/women, top entertainers or top "celebs" or top business folks being "targeted" in the same way - its just another easy target for the media - and how many top media folks are taking a pay cut?

We need a lot a high earners whose incomes don’t come from the public purse. Less income means less income tax.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I think the main objection (for me anyway) is because the back room staff are being furloughed or laid off whilst the players keep all of their salaries.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Income tax forms about 25% of UK government tax take.
Now if the top earners took a pay cut and the money went straight to keeping lower paid staff members of the furlough scheme, yes less income tax paid by the top earned but less outgoings for the UK taxpayer!
Top paid footballers get paid £50k+/week, so take a 2% pay cut, money goes to two staff members on average pay. Lands up saving the taxpayer keeping staff on the furloughed scheme.
Personally I would have more respect for companies where the directors, shareholders and top earners actually supported the low paid staff and their suppliers.

I don’t begrudge the singer/songwriter the massive incomes. Their income is based on the number of records they sell and other endorsements, there’s plenty of poor, very talented singers around.
But footballers, there seem to be plenty of extremely average players around that earn fortunes Discovery 4 HSE
