Hi all,
Possibly looking at staying at a cottage at Bellochantuy, it's just off the A83 is this a busy road?
What's the area like etc as well, things to do
Thanks in advance

From when I last travelled that road it wasn't what I'd describe as a busy road. But I was in the front of this so wasn't paying attention to the road that much.

Unless it was actually on the road I wouldn't worry about it.
PS Just looked at StreetView, wouldn't worry about it.

It's the main road (and only road!) on that side of the peninsula to Campbeltown.
I suppose it depends on what you are comparing it to in scale of busyness...
There's a newish member on the forum from the area, maybe PM him for more local, detailed info.

Not quite the only road, there's one on the E side of the peninsular but it's a bit skinny.
PS Just seen "on that side", agreed.

I Strongly suspect that if EVERYONE who lived along the A83 decided en-mass to go out at the same time the road would still seem deserted to someone who regularly used the M25
You'll love it up there - you don't react badly to midge bites do you??

Campbeltown itself is nice, with a decent choice of pubs and eateries. Outside of that it's pretty sparse. Great if you're an outdoors type, little nothing to attract you if you want nightlife. Nice beaches. We didn't come across too many midgies by Highlands standards.

Evening Iggy
Bellochantuy is just a few miles north of Westport beach - literally miles of open sand, very popular with surfers etc. and great for walking the mut or flying a kite. Our 8 yr old was surfing there last week just before the schools started back.
Campbeltown itself is OK for a day or so with swimming pool etc, a distillery (and there used to be an excellent dairy but not sure if it is still open). The wee picture house is excellent, and if you play golf then there is a popular course down at Southend.
Other than that a day trip to Gigha on the ferry as foot passengers - hire bikes once there as it is small and very like the some of the Isles of Scilly. A circular drive up the east side of the peninsula to Skipness, possibly take the ferry to Arran and the Loch Ranza distillery, or Tarbert about 40 minutes back the way.
We have good weather at present which means that winter can only be a matter of hours away, so make sure the cottage has good heating for you southern softies!
On a less positive note, if the weather should revert to type then there is the potential to get bored unless you have a good set of waterproofs - but then most of the west coast is like that anyway! Don't expect mountains - the KIntyre peninsula is very pastoral.Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Change of location.....
Thanks all
Well SWMBO read some reviews of the cottage and nearly everybody mentioned the road.....so she said no
BUT.........We've looked further afield and have found and booked a lovely cabin the the West of a the Cairngorms National Park Not far from a place called Inverlair (Looks like mid point between Fort William and the National Park)
Have edited the heading asking for advice about this area now Going last full week of October....Snow up there then?

Ah, Bellochantuy.
Used to go there for annual summer holidays as a kid.
In a caravan, in a field, diagonally across from the inn.
No toilet, shower etc, just a tent, bucket & shovel to do ones business.
Ah, the memories.
The broad white, unspoilt sands.
Buying aniseed balls from the small, local post office.
The smell of cow dung from the local farm from where we got our milk.
Feeding smokey bacon crisps to the pigs kept by the inn and thinking this was some unique experiment.
Getting caught in quick sand near the rocks.
Having fresh herring and boiled potatoes for tea.
Going the 10 mile or so to Campbeltown to spend my pocket money.
Scavenging the rock pools for anything that lived.
Go there, you'll love it, I think I did.
Edited to add: just seen you've changed your location.
Inveriair is Sh!t. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
< ‘tis but a mere scratch …….. it’ll polish out.

Shouldn't be snow on the roads maybe on the top of the highest mountains.
You're not far from Ben Nevis, for a nice walk. Or the gondolas at Nevis Range.
Plenty of world class mountain biking in the area, if that's your thing.
Also you are in 'Monarch of the Glen' country, the popular TV series.
The Stronlossit in Roy Bridge does decent food, and there are a couple of good places to eat in Ft Wm.
A nice drive to Mallaig for fish and chips could be part of a round trip one day including a crossing on the Corran ferry and a run through Morvern/Moidart etc.
