I don't think he ever used explosive. He used to cut away the chimneys and hold them up on telegraph pole sections, then he'd set fire to the telegraph poles which is why there's always a fire raging at the base. Once the fire burns through the poles, down it comes.
It's a word that is often over used these days but Fred really was a legend.Mods:

He didn’t get very far with his mine, Council soon stopped it as it is illegal to mine without the correct licences, permits and checks by the Mining Inspectorate.Arthur.

He usually gave a blast of an air horn when it was about to fall, sounded like a goose iirc
Definitely a legend as a steeplejack and a very good draughtsman as well.

very clever guy and would have adored him being my neighbour
u would never have to visit a tool shop again, oh FRED
You do know he dug a mine shaft in his back garden?
would have been handy if he had found coal
just think it would be very interesting having him as a neighbour , along with learning a huge amount
don’t know if it’s true but believe he couldn’t read or write , but it certainally never held him back
always felt he was the kind of guy u could look up to and a fantastic roll model and not like some of the snowflake generation
