[Free] Imperial spanners
Chaps
Still working my way through my dads garage and need to get rid of this lot. All either Whitworth, BS or AF.
38 in total plus 3 box spanners
Biggest is 3/4W, smallest looks like it’s 1/8W ring.
I am happy to let them go in exchange for a donation to the forum.
A bit of weight so possibly better for someone to collect from B68, or use the forum courier network

If only you were nearer ... trying to "fix" my dad's tool collection which, in the main, are rusted beyond saving due to a leak on the downstairs loo making his garage a damp place for a year+ before he decided to get it fixed

@hardware
If you can not work something out with the TO….
Rusted beyond repair within a year, due to damp is almost impossible tbh..
Tip:
What you can do: buy a big plastic bucket and a bottle of Hydrochloric acid
Do this outside: Throw all the tools in the bucket, fill it with water and the Hydrochloric acid (beware, wear eye protective googles and hold your breath… and after filling, walk away, before breathing again)
After a few days, maybe a week the rust is gone..
Delute it with clean water unil all the Hydrochloric acid is gone, maybe throw a handfull of soda (base) in the fluid to neutralize it…. Dry it then and use a litre of diesel to drenching the tools an keep them free from rust…
Look for a firm who can do electrolytic galvanizing…..
that is cheap, few tenners normally and the tools will be like new….
It isn’t chrome, but will get quite a few years of good use out them Best regards
Harold
Always looking for Pre '55's & Pre war British Motorcycles! knowing or having one for sale? PM please. I visit the UK 6 times a year
Ps. I edit my texts quite often, english is not my native language, so I will edit My “typo’s” etc.
Hi Harold, I did similar but used vinegar (much safer !! ) and a 12v supply.
it was working well and we were on 2nd sacrificial cathode (it eats them very impressively ! ) but dad decided to disconnect it and not mention it. the tools in the soup ended up at least as bad as when they went in.
might do caustic soda and aluminium foil on some of them ... quicker and doesn't need 12v BUT riskier in terms of handling. probably do that at mine rather than his, so he doesn't get involved..

Hi Al,
If everyone on here has their Halfords socket sets 😅 and have no need for your Dad’s spanner’s there are charities that will make good use of them. One of which, at random, is an a charity called TWAM who donate tools to African projects apparently and to good effect. A quick Google search will find others as well. It’s just a suggestion in case you wanted them to go to a good cause.
Good luck,
Terry

Cheers Terry, that would be great as I was hopeful they get some future use 👍
