french towing speed limits

A few of us with twin axle 'vans head for France during the year, and for the last 2 years have had the speed limit based on gross train weight, so as we are over 3500kg, limited to 90KPH on the autoroutes, whilst lower weight (and less capable) combo's can run at 130KPH.

Over on the Caravantalk forum, there is mention of the Geneva converntion, and that this law only applies to french registered cars.

So will the first forum member towing in France this year, please test this theory bu giving your D4/D4 and twin axle some beans down the autoroute at 130 KPH, and let us know the outcome Thumbs Up

done that already - stuck at 75 all the way from Annecy in the Alps back to Calais.

wrecklessly went a bit faster by accident when overtaking some lorries just before the exit I needed Rolling Eyes Whistle

over took a load of Gendarms at 70 as well and non of them so much as gave us a second look.

this year i'll have to stick a sign in the back window that says " Ner Ner Read the Geneva Convention" Thumbs Up

So how does this Geneva Convention thingy work? Is it what allows those driving a german car to park on double yellow lines, footpaths, box junctions and even all three at the same time, with immumity from prosecution - oh, and also to travel at speeds way in excess of the limits or conditions?

Seems a bit stupid to me. I think you should adhere to local laws/rules or risk the consequences

I usually cruise at 105-110 kph, I don't have the courage to go any faster (single axle van though).
Still, I'm usually the fastest caravan driver... Especially uphill Mr. Green

we have a single axle caravan as well. the twin axle is much, much more stable and doesn't bounce around as much..

I think the reference is to the Vienna Convention or another similiar sounding pop group.
