Norway 2015 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE Auto Santorini BlackDiscovery 4

I'm struggling with vibrations in the steering wheel when braking, and i am now on my third set of brakediscs since last october. The discs comes from Britpart, any ideas regarding quality? I have notised a little play in the lower wishbone rear bushing, when i bend on them, the wheel moves 5-10mm. However, i dont think this affects the problem, so im back to disc quality. Any experiences out there?

Britpart discs are Censored

I suspect that is your issue Thumbs Up

EDIT: That said, I have Delphi discs on my own Disco, and they have vibration issues too. Will be fitting a set of genuine LR discs soon...

Guys - mine is back with another set of discs and pads all round - genuine LR parts. (5 sets on the front in 18 months)

But do agree, on D3 only time I had this problem was with Britpart discs, never with genuine.

Jokingly booked into the dealers for 3 months time - as keep changing discs isnt the answer, but its all LR techies will let the dealer do.

What hasn't been changed? In my non techie mind that's where the issue would lie. Sounds a bit like they aim to keep changing the pads & discs until the warranty finishes, then you have to pay to fix the real problem.

Duc1098, I wouldn't discount your control arms causing the vibrations. That's what happened on my D3 - after multiple rotor swaps (cheap parts store ones) I'd given up, thought I'd just have to live with it. Even my local non-Rover shop said it was the cheap brakes I'd bought.

A few weeks later I finally got around to replacing my control arms and that was it. Mine were really bad, though - I won't wait to do them when my D4 needs them, that's for sure. Embarassed

Good luck!

Pat

Have a read of some of these white papers, the ones about warped discs and removing uneven pad deposits are very interesting.

http://stoptech.com/technical-support/technical-white-papers

In summary with modern discs many discs condemned as warped actually have friction material transfer which causes vibration.

Autos can be bad because of the way they are used ie pull at a junction with hot brakes and hold it with the brake pedal.

The article about removing deposits is also interesting, I have used the technique and it worked.

It would certainly appear that even a particular driving style could cause some of these problems.

I will replace my discs again soon, is original the best choice? If not, what is your recommendations? I do a lot off heavy trailer pulling, so i need good quality discs. Where can I get the best deal?

Genuine D4 front discs are relatively cheap - 78quid each if I recall. Its the front genuine pads that are a bit of a Censored take at 135 quid a set.

Just replaced my Britpart wobbly front discs of 2500Km old wit Land Rover ones and am happy that the wobble has gone. Also found that the Britpart/Bearmach discs is 2Kg lighter that the LR ones.

I had the classic "juddering" through the steering wheel when braking. New front discs, replaced by dealer at c.5k miles. Now approaching 8k miles and I have a horrible feeling that's it's starting to happen again. Evil or Very Mad

I know all about caring for braking systems, I've had very expensive AP Racing systems in the past. Plus, I'm not driving differently at all and never had an issue with the brakes on my D3 or the previous two D4's.

From past experience with an Abbott Racing prepared Saab 9000, if the hubs aren't exactly right it will cause the front discs to distort. I'm wondering if this is the problem?

Well it's happening again, the dreaded judder through the steering wheel when braking. This will be the third time now, which is averaging out at 5k miles per set of front discs & pads.

I think the dealer has finally grasped that it can't be "faulty" discs and as this is the 4th Disco I've had from them, they know it's not my driving style.

I'm 95% certain the problem is one or both of the hubs being slightly out. As per my last post, it's seemingly the identical problem that I had on a Saab.

I'm being put into a new D4 (don't know what spec) tomorrow, which I'll keep until they fix it. I'll be putting in writing, that if the problem persists, I shall be rejecting the vehicle as not fit for purpose. I think three attempts at trying to fix it is more than reasonable.

With so many examples of new discs being fitted etc perhaps LR might want to complete some detailed root cause analysis????? Thumbs Up

but then again.... Rolling with laughter
