front end click

MY14 D4

noticed the cars developed a new noise and wondered on the thoughts of the forum

At slow speed manourvering parking manourvres etc in either forward or revers there is a noticeable light metallic clicking from the front end near side i think

it reminds me of something i heard years back on an old front wheel drive car that had CV issues but sounds less pronounced that that .

ive had the wheel bearings checked for play and nothing noticeable either side or any rumble on wheel rotation.

any ideas thoughts to add to my paranoia??

I had what sounds like a very similar thing on our MY2010 D4. Slow manoeuvring with some steering input would cause the light clicking. It was cured by changing the oil in the front differential. The Indy had never come across it before and spent some time checking various things for wear, but all appeared to be good.

just posting with the outcome as it may help someone else

After a few more miles the issue became more and more noticeable and also apparent on both sides on hard lock so i booked it into my local indy West 4 X 4 after a few days it was diagnosed as drive shafts which mark west hadnt had an issue with at my mileage before, 45K miles .

He fitted one second hand one he had as a test and problem stopped on that side so then ordered and fitted 2 new GKN units and all sorted.

so what started as sounding like a coiled spring under tension pinging deteriorated and became a metallic clicking. as stated above this was the first time mark west had had this so guess i just got unlucky

Did this sound like a stone stuck in a tyre, with the ticking getting faster with wheel speed? I'm having these symptoms and trying to trace it. Seems to happen with the steering wheel centred or just off centre, disappears again with more steering wheel input. I'm thinking CV joint?
