Front suspension bushes

Have the dreaded front end knock on the RH side. The ball joints and lower steering shaft were changed to get rid of the rattles but after the last off road trip there is a louder knock especially when braking. The local ex LR dealer said that the lower bushes are oil filled as he had a customer complaining of oil leaks which turned out to be from the bushes. Has anyone else heard of this about the bushes Question

No, unless I am mistaken, your dealer is talking Censored

Unfortunately, not a cheap job to replace the bushes (or arms), and requires a wheel alignment afterwards

Had a look around the front RH suspension and found that the Upper arm rear bush had the rubber protruding to the rear of the arm as you could see black rubber(all the rest of the suspension is mud covered) and there is a mark on the chassis where the arm has been hitting it on the front edge of the arm. Has anyone else had upper arm bush problems. Booking it in for a checkup and hopefully the ext. warranty will pay for the repair Smile

When I changed my front arms, I hadn't ordered new bolts. I had to cut the old bushes off the bolts. The rears are filled with what looked like a thick silicone oil. Only about 20ml per bush, so doubt it would be visible and only there for damping.

Believe they are described as 'hydlraulic bushes'.

I think you may be thinking of the hydraulic ARB?

This picture doesn't show the rubber protruding out at the rear of the arm as I saw it. Sad They had the car on the hoist to check the bushes so it seems to have moved back into position BUT there is a mark in the chassis plate as you can see in the picture where the arm has moved forward and hit the plate. They tell me that faulty lower bushes could have caused the movement in the upper arm.

GarryC, I have exactly the same "scars" and had the bushes replaced under warranty. Just went and had a look, and the drivers side a-arm looks like it is rubbing against the chassis plate anyway Shocked
Hope LR Midrand are open today - off on a long trip next week

------EDIT-------

LR Midrand are indeed open, and despite the fact that they are chocablock full, have squeezed the vehicle in for tomorrow Thumbs Up
These are TOP guys! hope you Aussie's have similar dealers

Well I had the front suspension bushes replaced Confused I was told the excess would be $200 under extended warranty Surprised BUT they had to cut the bolt on the LH side as it was corroded in and I had to pay the labour on that as it was not covered under the warranty Sad so it cost me $470 all up Crying or Very sad The seized bolt was on the side NOT making any noises Shocked You can see from the image where they tried to hammer it out. I reckon an occasional squirt of WD40 on those suspension bolts would really help Laughing
