Front wheel hub and disc run out |
|
Hi,
I'm on my second set of disks in 18k miles on the front of my Disco, so yesterday I got my son to pop over (he works in a garage) with some test tools and we found that my hub runs out at .2mm thats .1mm higher than the run out on the disk itself. So I think I have found the issue.
Just to check I was not going nuts, we put a new disk on the hub, run out was then .4mm+ put the same disk on the other hub and there was less than .02mm run out on the disk (Delph), did this with both disks with the same results.
So, we then put it all back together using the old disk and pads. Replaced the gear linkage (excellent little fix) and did the rear disks/pads.
I just wondered if anyone would concur with my diagnosis which is that the hub it just rubbish. What a pain. Anyone else had this issue?

Mating surfaces need to be super clean, any speck of dust etc will do that for you. The only way to wear out disks in that time frame is if you are a racer (accelerate hard, brake hard) but my guess would be caliper not sliding on the pins properly or pistons sticking.

Are both disks wearing the same? What are the make of pads?- hard pads can cause excessive wear. Out of curiosity on the side that is running out try turning the disk 180 degrees, if it’s still out it is defo the hub, either rubbish or worn out(bearing).
As above suspect faulty Calipers or a very heavy right foot It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I forgot to reply, it turnmed out to be a faulty wheel bearing making the disk roun out of line.
