...this is what happened engine died etc
I didnt try to restart as was going to fill up anyway
(last chance corrral status)
instead of going to the nearest fill up point I opted to go to the one that gives loyalty points "Tesco" ( also had a 5p off per litre deal on - a bit sad....but the combination of both the Disco & my company car with the loyalty points - the return is quite a lot).

Did used to have an account - but now am all over the place & rarely get back to one filling station..

Now warned about running dry I just wont..
Thanks for the data guys

Diesel/Gas conversion

Norto

My tank size is 77ltr & it takes the place of the spare wheel.

The spare wheel I have had mounted on a post attached to the chassis
coming up through the rear bumper, it then swings out of the way when
you want to access the tailgate.

Having the tank mounted in the boot would have stopped the use of the
rear two seats which I did not want & also I think it would lessen the resale value.

Hope that helps

They only use 25L Tank here.
The system tickles gas into the system to help burn 98% on the diesel
as compared to 78% without gas

Diesel/lpg

Norto

Thats very interesting, the same applies in the UK, we call it fumigation.

The same end to increase the diesel burn to 95/97%, but with only a 25l tank
the range is is going to be very short before you have to refill with LPG.

The ratio lpg/diesel is approx. 36%, so I use two full tanks of diesel before I
refill the LPG tank. With your greater distances it does not seem to make sense.
Suggest you check with another convertor.

I just spoke to LR
They said they wouldnt warrant any part
that failed if that part was in some way connected to gas
So that ends it for me

Sorry guys, but I can't see the logic in running the tank, dry or nearly dry Confused

The pump(s) in the tank are self lubricating, that is they need fuel in order to be lubricated, so every time you run the tank very low your potentially stressings the pumps - why would you want to do this?

ISTR, if the high pressure side of the fuel system detects falling pressure it will do what it needs to to protect the engine.

Personally, with all modern cars I rarely let the tank go below a qtr full - damaging the fuel delivery system on modern high pressure systems and self lubricating tanks - it will be expensive when it does fail, and an overheating pump in a tank........not a good place for that to happen.

Agree - never something that I would intentionally do , but sometimes you can't get fuel up north , the conditions make your consumption go for a ball etc .

So handy to know what to do should the Censored hit the fan
