Fuel Consumption
I have a quick query on fuel consumption. I had my first service about a week ago and at the time they did the software upgrade to attempt to fix the "suspension fault". Previous to the service I was consistently running at 11.7 L/100 km for running around town. Since the service this has jumped to 13.1L/ 100km. It's going back to the dealer for a check. Anyone else seen this after a service!

I would have thought you would have had a reply by now. I know its a pounds, shillings, pence, gallons and mile thing, they are all looking for their rusty old convertion charts as we've only has them since 15 Feb 1971!!
HD3 gone for now

So 11.7L/100Km=24.14 mpg and 13.1L/100Km=21.56mpg.
But is it petrol or diesel???

Imperial measures rule!!!! Metric measures are a downright mouthful and are never useful or usable in comfortable easy single digit numbers...Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Since we can't play with the settings down here, I have to live with the output that's set. My preference is for L/km
Ocsid is that imperial or US mpg!!
Aside from the conversions, I'm less than happy that there has been a downward treend in econ0omy after a SW change given that my driving habits and routes have changed all!

Hi SMK,
The MPG conversions I quoted for your original figures were in UK gallons.
My diesel HSE auto vehicle has done 8+K miles, 51% of that towing but has not yet had its service. I tow a very blunt fronted caravan of 1.7 metric tonnes.
For guidance I will give you my consumption values to date if that’s of interest.
Overall 21.68 mpg = 13.03 Litres/100kM
Towing 19.66 mpg=14.37 Litres/100kM
Calculated solo at last check point, 23.01mpg = 12.28 Litres/100kM
I know on good long run tank fulls, not that I do much of that, I get just over 28 mpg [ 10 Litres/100kM ] solo. However I find that the solo economy is destroyed if I encounter city and start stop traffic.

Prior to the SW update
I was averaging 11.7L/100km for city driving - short stop/start runs in the suburbs. Long trips with the family only dropped it to 10.2L/100km at 110 kph. Towing a 1.2 tonne camper trailer ran at 11.8-12.0 at 110 kph. So you can see why 13.1 is out of character

My experiences about consumption, now driven 4800 km:
- best ever summer: 7.4 l/100 km during 620 km drive (first kilometers)
- best ever winter: 8.0 liter/100 km during 255 km drive, it was on 85 km/h average speed and winter tyres with spikes, temp -8
- normal when my wife drives: 9.2 liters / 100 km
- normal when I drive (bit more aggressive style): 9.7 l/100 km
- highest ever: 13.7 liters/100 km during 280 km trip when pulling a trailer box (1.6 m wide and 1.8 high) of 1700 kg weight
my secret for these lower level figures is that mine has MANUAL gearbox -- too many modifications made to my Disco 3 to be listed in here --
Why not? Don't u have the Unit option in the settings menu (km/L vs L/km vs mpg, Celsius vs Fahrenheit etc) ?

I don't think so - what the europeans failed to grasp is that the two systems can co-exist quite happily. My brain works in imperial - whenever I get quoted metric lengths or weights or volumes or speeds or whatever, I will do a conversion to imperial to gauge it for comparion - what this requires is some basic conversion numbers (e.g. 1 mile = 1.609km, 1 Pint = 568ml, 2.2lb = 1kg)Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
