Cripes!!!! Just did a real calculation on a full tank, used 66litres to cover 328.6 miles, avearage fuel consumption 22.6. That's not very good is it? 2011 D4 Landmark, Mini Cooper SD Clubman, Range Rover Vogue SE

Out of interest what did the fuel computer read??
I never believe what they say and always 'brim' the tank and record the mileage.
My disco 3 used to say 29 mpg on the computer but was actually doing 24 mpg

Just back from a long couple of days, Oxford - Northampton - Clitheroe - Oxford, all in a nice sedate fashion (70 on cruise, not thrashing it away from junctions, elgar on the stereo...) , 426 miles in all. Starting with a full tank of BP Ultimate, I still had 50 miles on the "distance to empty" gauge and 32.2 mpg indicated. Brim to brim figure was more like 28.3.
Average so far (3253 on the clock) is 24.9 compared with 25.0 on the D3 to the same mileage, but looks like D3 was fed a diet of almost pure BP Ultimate while D4 has had more mixed fuelling (can you tell I had a fuel card back then?!)
Biggest problem with the D4 fuel consumption is the temptation the engine and chassis provide...

In the end fuel doesn't really cost that much as part of the overall total - depreciation is a far bigger cost, just that you don't notice it as you don't have to shell out regularly as you do for fuel.
If you drove 12,000 miles a year and compared a car doing 40 mpg to one doing 25 mpg, the cost difference is about £900. Depreciation will be 5 to 10 times that difference!
As the Disco is supposed to depreciate slower than competitor cars, overall keep smiling!  Paul

I have to agree with NeilD on that.
I've just done a Devon/Heathrow/Devon trip. 391 miles. The trip computer gave me 28.4 mpg but when I did the sums using the actual fuel on a brim to brim basis, it came out 26.14 mpg.
The journey was made up of about 40 miles of rural roads and the rest motorway on cruise control at about 74mph except for 50 miles of road works at 50 mph. Average speed was 63 mph. Total vehicle mileage 2300.
These figures are about 10% better than my D3.

I've now got 430mls on the clock and have averaged 30.8mpg but have been taking it easy on the throtle during the run in period. I'll watch with interest over the comming weekend when the horse trailer goes on, and see if the mpg drops through the floor.

I've not seen many squadies at my local Shell garage in their Challenger tanks, and if i did i'm damn sure that they wouldnt be filling them out of thier own pockets!! 
The reason i'm keeping an eye on the MPG is becuase i've changed down from a RR Sport TDV8 and am interested in the difference between the two vehicles.
Merely an observation excercise

mine base model manual returns the following:
25-26 normal day to day driving around town with BAS applied goes down about 2MPG with out the map
around 32 mix driving say 70% motorway 30 town
last tank (72 l) returned 492 miles very mixed driving more than half of it without map applied (forgot to flush ECU after I picked it up from stealers)
just to let u know and make u more happy
