Great posts, picture paints a thousand words! I had the opposite problem, fuel filler door would not lock.
Quick read through a few posts on the site, got into the rear drive side and pulled the cable out.
Looks like the plastic rode had the end snapped off, tested and motor moves just fine! Typical 54 D3 TDV6 AUTO HSE - Oct13 > Present

same deal had the Disco for 10 years now and never had "this" issue (most of the usual ones ) or the reset function. Stuck at the garage looking a right plum trying to open the filler door, tried unlocking 3-4 times and nothing, luckily had 1/4 tank so drove off in shame . Got home saw this post went to try the reset, pressed unlock once and open it popped . Maybe I'd tried 4 times and 5 times was a charm (/reset)..
Anyway thanks for the post as always this Forum is a life saver
